"Wow ... wonderful hotel! Never forget it."
I've travelled Europe for many years now, and currently living in Italy. Had a recent trip to Stromboli to see the active volcano on this small island, with the full expectation that the fiery volcano would be the main attraction. However, the owner of the Hotel Ossidiana was such a sweet and generous man, our trip in some ways was over-shadowed by his hospitality.
He lives very close to the hotel (he's actually a native of Positano), and allowed my husband and I to use his hot-spring terme at his home, and also invited us for lunch one day at his home. We were there for three day, and didn't want to leave! We took the three-day deal, which was a great package. 228 euros during high-season on an Italian island... try and beat it!
At first glance the Island of Stromboli seems to be a one-of type of trip, but we're seriously considering going back. Our room was beautiful with a huge terrace ... light and airy decor. Loved it! Top ten trip of my life for sure.

"We loved it"
We stayed one night at the Ossidiana in September 2006, arriving at noon from Lipari, walking up Stromboli, sleeping at the Ossidiana and catching the 7:25 ferry back to Milazzo the next day.
As you can see, we didn't spend a lot of time at this place but I think I can still add my opinion.
I try to be picky in my reviews, stressing the negative facts with good hotels in order to be fair, but there wasn't anything I didn't like with the Ossidiana (except, perhaps, that they insisted to charge the whole price at booking time).
The room was big, beautiful and clean, the bath room was excellent, and it was really calm too. However, our room looked to the backside where we had a beautiful sun-protected terrace too. I guess that a room to the front would have been much louder. Therefore, I recommmend booking a backside room explicitely.
One extremely pleasant surprise: We absolutely wanted to catch the 7:25 ferry, but breakfast started officially only at 8:00. I asked if it were possible to have at least a coffee or something at 7:00, and they told me "don't worry, you'll have your complete breakfast" at that time. Guess what? They kept their word! We were completely alone at that time, but we had our complete breakfast.
For our needs, Ossidiana was the perfect place.
