"Lovely Victorian Hotel"
Staying at the Palace Hotel, in the English Peak District spa town of Buxton in Derbyshire, is a wonderful experience.
The hotel occupies a prominent position in the town and represents the very best of Victorian architecture, and enables guests to sample style and elegance from 100 years ago - a refreshing change from the very 'samey' hotels of today although the addition of the leisure centre was very welcome to work off all the weight put on during our stay!
Our room was fine; with excellent views ...the bathroom was large enough to hold a party in! There was some redecorating taking place in the hotel. Staff were excellent and helpful. The food in the restaurant was wonderful and the service first class. We had a fantastic deal from Laterooms...and paid £69.50 per room per night bed, breakfast AND evening meal!!!!!
Buxton is a smashing little town, and is well situated to explore this area of England. We hope to return to the Palace in the future.

"A Victorian gem worth a visit."
We stayed a couple of nights at the Palace during the Buxton Gilbert & Sullivan festival and were not disappointed. Certainly this hotel is a grand old victorian edifice, but the Paramount group are making a sterling effort to restore and refurbish. We are aware that some of the rooms have been upgraded recently while others are still to do, but judging by guest comments and careful observation most people are satisfied and while we were there the place was completely full.
The dinner service was spectacularly efficient and all those that needed an early meal to attend the theatre were served in good time from an interesting and constantly changing menu. Breakfast was good but perhaps not quite enough choice in juice and bread for those not requiring cooked. However, there was plenty to go at.
For the price and position this is a good, value for money hotel.

"Excellent service"
Grand old hotel in prime position in Buxton. Service was very good and breakfast excellent. However, the hotel lacked atmosphere especially during the evenings which lead us to find other places to eat and drink (quite pricey too, glass of house white wine £4.10) We felt the hotel needed a pianist or some other live music and a better defined bar area to encourage residents to sit and relax. Such a shame because the hotel has a lot going for it. |
