Parador Granada Hotel's building is in the Alhambra, a series of palaces started in 1238 and added to by later Arab rulers. The hotel is part of a palace and mosque built between 1332 and 1354 which was later converted into a Franciscan convent with a charming tiled Patio remaining from this conversion. Part of the building was the former chapel where the kings of spain were buried until their remains were moved to the Royal Chapel where they now lie.

The interior combines the Arabic and Christian styles with classical furniture, numerous portraits, engravings embroideries etc. The bedrooms are all being different and have views of the famous buildings that make up the Alhambra site.

LOCATION

Parador Granada Hotel is housed in an old convent which was founded by the Catholic Monarchs and is under official protection as a historic and artistic monument. It is also situated within the grounds of The Alhambra.

"Wonderful place"
Part of the charm of this parador is the fact that it's located inside the Alhambra and the Generalife gardens. How often do you get the chance to sleep in a 12th century building complex? We had a ground floor room that faced a little pond, and although the temps averaged 100 degrees the flowers were in full bloom. The room was clean and cool, with understated decor that befits this place. (Speaking of the heat, buying bottles of water ahead of time for the Alhambra tour is a must - you're outside for at least 3 hours!) there is an inner patio-like area with a little fountain, padded chairs and tables, serene and lovely. The night we were there a wedding took place in the tiny courtyard, for about 50 guests. It added to the unforgettable experience because the setting was so spectacular. Dinner was great, in the outdoor seating area. The staff was terrific, accomodating my parents' special dietary needs and requests, and even though certain items we wanted were not listed on the menu the chef agreed to prepare them just for our satisfaction without any fuss. A special recommendation for the pastry lovers: try the Pionones, a sweet treat that is served only in Granada and is offered in the magnificent breakfast buffet. Don't forget to use the enclosed parking area for the parador's guests - saves time and stress. This place is worth every penny - and you'll never forget it.

"Amazing Surroundings"
Stayed one night last week! Driving up to the Parador makes one feel like royalty! Considering the price the interior of the room was nothing special. The set of prints and the truffles were a nice touch. We paid to be able to stay within the Alhambra and walk around at night with out the throngs of people. Too cold to sit outside on the terrace but we did walk around the garden. We took the tour offered through the Parador - no standing in lines and an excellent guide. Walk down the hill to the city and a taxi back up is only 3 Euros or there is a minibus that will take you most of the way for less than a Euro. A once in a lifetime experience.
