"Our favourite"
This was the best parador we visited on our recent tour. It is a beautiful building situated right next to the monastery with on-site parking (9 euros). The town itself is beautifully situated in the sierra with great views from the approaching roads, particularly the road north to Navamorral. We ate an excellent dinner on the terrace in the lovely gardens and the service was friendly and helpful - not much english spoken! Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the gardens, rooms 14-17 are best.

"Relaxing"
We were looking for a place not crowded of tourists in mid-final July just to scape from the hell of madrid in summer. And we found it! :-) The views from the terrace are beatiful, the room is spacious and the food in the restaurant is very good.

"Atmospheric, 15th Century Hospital now a 4 star Hotel"
You probably need to know about this one, as it isn't a place that many tourists outside of spain will have heard about. But it's about time they did. We stayed two nights in a wonderful room with a superb balcony that overlooked the cathedral and monastery. The Parador just oozes charm and history - 15th century, so from the time that Columbus passed through to get his 'papers' signed by the Queen. This gave him the green light to cross the pond and begin the European influence of the New World. So he probably popped in to the then hospital to sort out whatever ailments he might have had. Wow. The first human dissection in Spain was carried out in what is now the car park, and there's a plaque to commemmorate it. And the hotel is nice - a beautiful courtyard filled with orange and lemon trees. And that architecture. We happened to be there on the 12th October, the day of the Spaniard. There were processions of riders on hoarseback parading through the town. And such an atmosphere! The restaurants are plentiful, good value, and serve nice food. Especially Meson Cordero and the Monastery. We didn't eat in the Parador, but what we saw through the window would let us believe that the food probably is good. Visit Extremedura. Its is really lovely, sparsely populated, and really warrants further attention. Also visit Avila. It has an impressive mediaeval wall.
