"Beautiful and historic...."
I stayed at the Parador San Marcos for five days last summer while visiting a friend in Leon. The San Marcos is a beautiful gem of architecture and history, and every aspect of my stay there was truly lovely. The public spaces are exquisite, huge, ancient. My room was extremely spacious with a large, modern bathroom and a terrace overlooking a small, rear garden. The staff was always helpful and professional, and made me feel very welcome. I loved the little, chocolate-covered almonds that were left on my nightstand everyday! The breakfast buffet was of a great variety and excellent quality, while cheaper and more basic fare can also be readily found at the lovely cafe across the plaza. The walk to the center of town was about a 10-15 minute distance, which while not a problem for me could be easily negotiated by a quick taxi ride. In all, I truly enjoyed my visit to Leon and my stay at the San Marcos, and I would gladly visit both again!

"What a great hotel!!!!"
This parador was sooo impressive! Much more , IMO, that the one in Santiago. We stayed in the new area, very nice room with big bathroom and a terrace overlooking gardens and river. The restaurant was excellent.

"Felt like I was in a fairytale!"
I loved staying here. Although the room was just nice--bathroom all marble--view of the Roman bridge, the parador itself is fabulous. I kept roaming around, finding new and amazing rooms such as the library which was amazing and had a huge window looking into the adjoining cathedral. The courtyard was stunning. We had dinner at the restaurant and the setting was delightful and the food was very good (not great) and we had coffee in the morning at the bar, which was also a beautiful setting. This was my favorite part of Leon.

"The Majestic Monastery of San Marcos"
I read the previous reviews before booking and I am glad they didn't put me off, the hotel showed no signs of 'wear and tear'. We up-graded the room upon arrival and stayed in the 'old' part, the room was tastefully decorated, comfortable and clean, reflecting its 5 star rating. I agree the restaurant's food was very good but not great, the staff (other than the concierges) were efficient and friendly, the bar was comfortable and served tasty snacks and the breakfast choice was lavish. We had a lovely stay and it made our visit to Leon forever memorable.
