"great location and rates, OK service"
Stayed 6 days in a deluxe room at the Peninsula. Great location, great views from my room on 17th floor at the older Peninsula block. Service was average, the breakfast room was crowded and the food was of average quality. The best things were the rates and the location. So if you want a convenient hotel that is clean without being special, this will suit you. I will try a different place the next time.

It was with some considerable trepidation that we approached our room on the 7th floor of the Excelsior Tower for a 5 night stay having read previous reviews. Imagine our surprise to find a clean room with everything working. Sure it is not the newest hotel in town but we could find nothing to complain about. The location is exellent - a short walk to the City Hall MRT and numerous restaurants. It is certainly not 5 star but the rates are reasonable (by Singapore standards) and it was definitely value for money.
