Wow, I'm the first to review this hotel! I'll do my best. Originally booked the Courtyard Berlin Koepnick, but they did not have twin rooms when I arrived by car so they rebooked me at 89euro at the City Center Facility. Paid about 16 euro per day for car parking and 15 euro per day for wireless internet. Breakfast was included, and was a very impressive spread in the main cafe area next to the front desk. The rooms are all brand new and spacious. The decor is a little bit on the Las Vegas side, but quite nice. The hotel has a business center and a small grocery type store, but I did not visit those. The location is quite nice, keeping in mind that Berlin is a HUGE city. I read it is 9 times the size of Paris. You are a 5-10 minute walk from Checkpoint Charlie. The hotel itself sits right on the line where the old Berlin Wall was, according to my map, placing it in the former Eastern side. You are a good 15-20 minute walk from the Alexandar Platz area. The Spittlemart subway stop is very close, but I did not use the trains. Overall, a spotless and new facility. The only negative thing that happened to me was a fire alarm at 2am. The alarm went off twice, with an automated message only played in German. Even though this is large international hotel with many languages, I didn't feel it out of place to expect English as this is an American chain hotel. We all filed outside at 2am, waited for a few minutes, then went back to bed. For tourists to Berlin...I HIGHLY recommend the Fat Tire Bike Tours that leave from right under the tall television tower in Alexandar Platz. They cater to the 18-26 backpacker crowd, but there were all ages in my group. The guides are all native english speakers and are very funny and in no way politically correct in their talks! Best 20 euro you can spend to meet lots of travelers and see a good deal of Berlin from a comfortable beach cruiser type bike. I will stay at this hotel again. Very nice staff and extremely clean and modern. They do not have a pool, but they do have a small sauna and workout area. |
