"Obviously renovated and much improved"
Had to stay here for a business trip (July 2006) and hadn't read the reviews here in advance (a colleague booked it for me) but it seems clear that the hotel has been completely renovated since those reviews were written.
The hotel is very much a modern boutique-style hotel. The rooms are very tastefully decorated with a very modern, clean look and feel. My room was equipped with flat-screen TV and high-speed internet.
The staff were helpful and friendly. The bar downstairs was fine but I can't comment on the food: we didn't eat in the hotel (as others have pointed out, it's a great neighbourhood with plenty of choice).
On another note, it appears the Expedia link on this site points to the former name for this hotel and includes out-of-date photos. The "photos" link on TripAdvisor points to the Orbitz photo gallery which shows more current photos of the hotel. Interesting to contrast and compare!

"Surprisingly nice"
From the outside one has no clue what to expect but once you get into your room the space, high ceilings, minimalist (just right) decor and furniture, top class bathroom... all make it a very nice surprise.

"Chic Right Bank hotel"
My husband and I stayed here for five nights during the first week of September. It was our second time in Paris and also, our honeymoon. We stayed at the K+K Cayre last fall and wanted to try another contemporary/modern boutique hotel, but on the Right Bank this time.
We are big on style and prefer not to stay in accomodations featuring antique/period decor. The Hotel Le 123 was certainly decorated to our liking. Our room was spacious enough for a Parisian hotel room and featured a big comfy bed and an interesting piece in the form of a workshop-type wooden table with high stools. No complaint with the bathroom either. There was plenty of space around the sink to place toiletries.
Our room rate included breakfast, which can either be taken in the lobby bar downstairs or else ordered the night before and delivered to your room. Skip the runny eggs. Excellent cheeses and breads.
As far as service, we befriended Javi, the bartender from Peru, who made a mean gin fizz. Although the front desk staff can use a refresher in hospitality, a couple of the women did assist us in making reservations for the Moulin Rouge (which you should skip as it is terribly overrated) and dinner at Altitude 95 atop the Tour Eiffel. We had a few problems with getting our breakfast served on time; the problem seemed to be a shortage in staff. We also had a problem with a neighbor next door who chose to smoke on our nonsmoking floor. The day after we complained, the smoker had seemingly vacated the room or ceased smoking, probably the former rather than the latter.
The hotel is located on the corner of Rue de Faubourg St. Honore and Roosevelt in the Champs Elysee district. It's conveniently located a minute's walk away from a Metro station.
Would we stay here again? If the price was right; but definitely not at the rate we paid for our honeymoon.
