Plaza e De Russie Hotel, built in 1871, is the most ancient hotel in Viareggio facing the "passeggiatta" (the promenade). The Liberty framework surrounding the hotel makes the whole area a real architectural jewel.

"Wonderful hospitality"
We have just returned home from a 10 day stay in this hotel. It is ideally situated right on the long promenade of Viareggio. The resort is very Italian and to the English the architecture on the sea side of the promenade is a little quirky. The hotel does not have a swimming pool but has an arrangement with a private beach for it's guests. (12e per person per day - deck chair and umbrella). We selected the cheapest rooms so that we could invest heavily in the local seafood and wine. Also these rooms are situated in a central well of the hotel building - they have an austere outlook but are very peaceful. The rooms are comfortable, with excellent bathroom, are kept immaculately clean and serviced twice daily. The public rooms on the ground floor - the entrance, reception, bar and lounge - are very impressive. There is a wonderful roof top restaurant with veranda and views out to sea and the mountains. The real delight of this hotel is the staff and the food! Every member of staff one meets is super efficient and super friendly. The cleaning staff keep your room and everywhere else spotlessly clean. The reception staff work extemely hard at answering all your questions (all speak excellent English) and arranging for cars, restaurant bookings outside the hotel and making sure that everything runs smoothly on those special trips. The restaurant staff provide wonderful cuisine, served immaculately in lovely surroundings. We felt we were treated like friends by every member of staff and one of the reception staff even came out on to the steps of the hotel to wave us off as we left for the airport in our taxi. "Superb hotel, great beach facilities"
We stayed in this hotel for four nights as part of our Italian honeymoon and we weren't disappointed. One of the attractions of the hotel was that it was close to the beach and had an agreement with a local sports club to include umbrella and deck chair use as part of the deal. You just have to cross the road/promenade and go through an arcade and you are on a lovely sandy beach. The deluxe room we had was spectacular and very clean. Honeymooners get a complimentary bottle of champagne. The evening restaurant food is amazing, although you couldn't go there too often as the menu is quite short. We hope to return to the hotel for a longer beach holiday.

"Great hotel"
I have stayed in Viareggio before in smaller 2 star hotels and Hotel Plaza was a great choice. It's a great hotel. Very friendly staff. Nice rooms, clean, spacious, nice decor. Amazing bathroom. Nice breakfast, beautiful terrace on top floor restaurant. Nice location, right across the street from the beach (there are no hotels "on the beach" in Viareggio) and boardwalk with many restaurants (great food, fresh seafood) and boutiques. Can set up chairs and umbrellas at beach club via hotel, but they take a cut. Cheaper if you go on your own, and might get better location on the beach as the beach club the hotel recommends has a section reserved to the hotel and it is further from the water then others. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Would go back.
