"The Most Wonderful Hotel Ever"
Pratt's Hotel in Bath, England is the most quaint, wonderful, old hotel. The rooms are wonderful in the fact that they have comfortable beds, great views, and are very clean. I haven't stayed at a place this nice in the U.S. I was served a wonderful breakfast in the dinning room. The hotel is centrally located so it is but a short walk to the Roman baths. There is a park that borders the river and it is only a short walk from Pratt's. If you are ever in Bath or nearby and need a room, please consider Pratt's for a lovely time. |

"Like stepping into a Jane Austen novel"
As the chaperone for a group of high school students on a literary tour of England, I was immediately enchanted by the welcome we received at this wonderfully located, delicately decorated, and historically preserved gem of a hotel. Everything in the small yet efficient lobby was elegantly placed and included a beverage table featuring local water, thought to have healing powers.
The rooms brought cries of delight from our impressionable group as they discovered unique qualities in each room. In one, a myserious set of stairs led to the enormous, light filled bathroom. All of the bathrooms featured heated towel bars, generous pump bottles of lotion, shampoo, and hand soap, and.....rubber ducks!
The decidedly feminine decor was perfect for our group of 14 girls and 2 boys and included such niceties as plump coverlets, a writing desk, small sitting chair, and lovely tea service for the user's convenience.
The three course dinner featured creative delicacies such as a fresh mozzarella and tomato salad with pesto and a filling pasta dish with a delicate sauce hinting of unusual spice combinations. For heartier diners, a perfectly presented beef entree arrived adorned with traditional Yorkshire pudding. Large platters of 3-4 vegetables were added to each table and we were impressed with the obvious freshness and variety of the delicious vegetables. As an ice cream lover, I couldn't resist the three small balls of exquisite Italian ice cream nestled into a crunchy bowl. It truly was the best ice cream I have ever eaten. The other desserts were equally impressive and creative, including a creme de brulee and our introduction to the intensely sweet profiteroles, which are somewhat like cream puffs.
After dinner, one could easily stroll through Bath to take in the stately buildings made of a rich yellow brick and the many spectacular gardens. At the Pratt, however, our students were content to take their tea and explore the many large parlors filled with books, games, and atmosphere. One of the most enjoyable parts of the stay occurred when several of the girls had a "salon" in the women's rest room! The parlor preceeding the rest room was huge and lent itself exceptionally well to over an hour of excited girl talk!
For an experience off the beaten path and for a glimpse of what it might have been like to live over a hundred years ago, gather your trunks, hat boxes, and maids, and head over to Pratt's Hotel. Or, you can just bring your backpack and imagine what it must have been like to arrive in the town where one came to see and be seen. |
