"Impressively spacious"
I was impressed by the President from the moment I walked into it. The reception staff were efficient and helpful and the price quoted was very reasonable for this class of hotel. The public rooms, corridors etc had a vary airy and spacious feel to them, and the bedroom was much larger than average. The decor has been described as retro. This may be true - it just seemed modern to me and inobtrusive. There was a garage under the hotel (extra charge) so there were no worries about the safety of our hire car.
The hotel is very well sited for exploring the 'centro storico.' A good way into it is by walking through the Giardini Pubblici, which are only about ten minutes away. The helpful receptionist gave us an excellent street map and quickly marked on it all the places of interest (virtually all churches, but all different and well worth seeing) - a nice gesture. Whilst we were there, there was a Saints Festival on in the town and in the evening the streets and piazzas were packed to the point where you could hardly move through them. Getting back to the calm and peace of the hotel was something of a relief. The breakfast was very good and the evening menu looked interesing too, though a little out of our price range.
To sum up I'd describe this hotel as clean, tidy, spacious, well run, well positioned and good value for money. It does not particularly have an Italian feel to it, but if you're touring, you may be happy to look for that in some other town.
