"A hidden gem"
This hotel is only about 500 feet from the train station, making it easy to get to. On the outside, it is modest and easy to simply walk past as it sits amongst the many look alike touristy souvenir stands. Once inside, it becomes another story that one can best liken to the scene where Dorothy opens the door of her house to discover she's in munchkin land. It is a large, beautiful, immaculate old world style hotel with a dedicated and concerned staff that offers first rate service (thank you Alessandro) The rooms were small, but squeaky clean and tastefully decorated. The bathrooms were surprisingly quite large, plush and very well done in marble, chrome and ceramics. The breakfast room is an excersize in elegance; the mix of hot and cold selections were excellent and a great way to start your day. Just outside is large terrace, with an amazing view of grand canal, perfect for a liesurely meal or that late night bellini. I would go back in a heartbeat.

"Worked just fine for our purposes!"
We stayed here because we were joining a bustour of Italy that was starting here for its first couple nights. As we were arriving a day ahead of the tour, we just stayed the extra night in this hotel.
Basically, we have no complaints whatsoever. The room was small, but we didn't plan on spending much time in the room anyway. I mean, c'mon! It's VENICE!!!! We were there to sightsee. And the room was clean, quiet and comfortable, so what more did we need, right?
And the in-room internet service was the most user-friendly we encountered in 3 major cities worth of hotels on the tour.
The only negative was that we did not receive a wakeup call any of the 3 mornings we stayed here, despite having left wakeup call personally AND our tour director doing so as well (the last night of our stay).
No, it isn't the price of a Holiday Inn Express, but again, it's Venice so what can one expect? It was convenient to the train station & water taxi as others have said and we could walk to anywhere else we wanted to see (& we did).
We'd happily stay here again.

"great location"
Last summer my husband and I spent 2 days here. The location was fantastic. The hotel is right on the Grand Canal, and close to the train station. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Our room had two little balconies with great views of the canal and the busy pedestrian street out front. Our room had two separate twin beds, but they were easy to push together so that wasn't a big deal. The room was smaller than we expected, but it was nice. The hotel bar is cute, with live entertainment. The next time we go to Venice we will stay here again. Venice is such a fabulous, romantic city. You will definitely love it.

"Post Cruise Stay in Venice"
We have just stayed at the Hotel Principe having added a night in Venice to our 2 week Med Cruise. We had booked 2 rooms over the Internet for 4 adults and 2 children. We arrived at 10am and received a very warm welcome from the Reception Staff. We were offered 1 of our rooms immediately which was very welcome, complimentary breakfast which was not expected, and a room upgrade to Balcony with Canal View for 1 of the rooms. We had e mailed the Hotel in advance and asked for our rooms to be close to each other, which they were. Both rooms were extremely large with excellently fitted Bathrooms. Wonderful chandeliers, the best cotton linen and furniture in character with the location, combined with a very comfortable bed all made both rooms outstanding. Each room was very adequately stocked with Bathrobes, slippers and toiletries. At Breakfast, the staff promptly moved tables to provide a table for 6 on the Terrace overlooking the Canal. Staff were attentive and the Breakfast was wide ranging and very good. Overall, the staff we encountered were very friendly, our luggage was stored on our last day, and nothing seemed too much trouble for anyone. I would certainly recommend this Hotel, especially given its proximity to the Grand Canal, excellent Restaurants and Shopping, the Train Station and the connections available from P de Roma.
