"wow"
probably the best hotel i have ever stayed in, the room was very big, huge comfy bed and lovely bathroom, very clean. Breakfast was excellent, so much choice in the buffet, from bacon and eggs, fish, omlettes to a variety of breads, jams , juices and cereals and as much coffee as you wanted. We stayed over a long weekend, the hotel was quiet, as it was also february, indoor pool looked very nice, but never used it, piano bar was really nice to relax in after an evenning out, drinks quite pricey, also a bar/disco on top floor for guests only, there is glass on one side, the view of cologne with the cathedral lit up was quite something,hotel is ideally placed, as 10 mins walk one way is the cathedral, square and shops and 10 mins the other, is the main street of bars, restaurants etc, will definitely go back

"Excellent value for money"
We stayed for three nights in Oct. 2005 The hotel was excellent. The deal through web was only £60/night RO. The room we got was on the 7th floor with large picture windows over rooftops to the Dom. We sampled the pool one evening which was very quiet and very pleasant. The hotel location is good.... only 15 mins. to the Dom and old town (although it always seemed to take us hours due to all the shops, cafes, and bars along the way). We followed an earlier reviewers advice of requesting tea and coffee making services in-room and housekeeping duly brought us coffee maker and supplies. We didn't eat in the hotel since there are so many places to eat nearby.... and much cheaper. Cologne is great particularly the Dom, old town, shopping and walks on both sides of the river Rhine. The bruehaus bars and the Kolshe are great too and an excellent place for a hearty meal. Enjoy.

"Nice hotel for the money"
I just got back from a long weekend stay in Cologne, and I stayed at the Dorint Kongress at a rate of 82 Euros a night (including breakfast) thanks to my corporate travel reservation service getting me thier rate. However, I believe the price of this hotel is normally easily between 100-200, and I can't say that I wouldn't have minded paying something in that range for the hotel. That's why at 82, it was a deal. This hotel was very nice, clean, and comfortable. The beds weren't the most confortable, but I've slept on MUCH worse hotel beds before. The room I stayed in had two single beds, a work desk, a little round table with two chairs, sitting bench, and a refrigerator. The room was clean, and very well kept. The bathroom was also very clean, and spacious with a shower with a removeable shower head (don't know why all hotels don't have these, as usually the wall mounted ones are either too high or too low). Was on the 8th floor, and could see the cathedral from my window, which was a nice bonus. The breakfast was pretty good, but if I would have had to pay the 18 Euros pp seperately, I might have reconsidered. But, since it was included in the price, I didn't mind. The light system in the room is also very cool. When I first walked in, couldn't figure out how to turn on the lights, as the swtiches weren't working, and it was dark at the time. Thought I might have to go back down and get a different room. However, I had a few things in my hands, and I noticed a little plastic holder on the wall right inside the door that said "CARD" with an arrow pointing to a slot. I thought, "Huh. That's cool. A holder to put your card when you come in, so you always know where it is." I decided I would try some of the other lights in the room first, and put my stuff down, and put the key card in the card slot "for safe keeping". The second I did, the lights all came on in the room. Very cool. Pull the card out, and all the lights go off. Also, next to the bed, on the nightstand, are little pushbuttons so when you are in bed, you can turn all the lights on or off without getting out of bed. Perfect for when having to use the bathroom in the middle of the night in a dark, strange room, or when you climb into bed, and realize you left that one light on aross the room. I thought this was a very nice idea. The hotel is situated about a 7-10 minute walk due west of the Cathedral. If you come out to the main road the hotel is on, and head east, the road runs smack into the middle of the Cathedral square. If you come out of the hotel, and walk 2 streets east, and the head south, you hit the start of the big shopping markets. Overall, very conveniently located. Not too close to the main areas (as they were always bustling and very loud), but not too far away either. Just perfect. As I was there for a business trip and just stayed two days extra on my own, I now know where everything is in relation to the hotel, and am planning on bringing my wife and daughter back for a nice 4 day weekend very soon. Oh, yeah, and we'll definitely be staying at the Kongress!!
