"Fantastic!"
I stayed at Punta Negra with a friend between 9-11 June 2006. We are both busy mothers so we chose a place where we could unwind.
We arrived on the Ryanair flight in the morning and after a short taxi ride(20 Euros) we were at the hotel. The reception staff were very welcoming and immediately went to check if the room was ready. It was and as it was 11am, so we were pleasantly surprised. There is no lift in the hotel, but they don't really need it because there only 3 floors. The receptionist also gave us a card which you can use at the bar and then pay for all your food/drinks at the end of your stay. We found it to be very convenient.
The room was exactly as described, very clean. There is plenty of room in the cupboards for clothes. Unfortunately, there is no mirror in the room. The bathroom was also very clean. I noticed that a lot of people in their reviews said there wasn't a hairdryer in the room, but we had one in ours. We had an enormous balcony with a breathtaking sea view. Then we had a hard decision to make to go right to the swimming pool (filled with sea water) or to the left down to the beach. We went to the beach. It was very clean with lots of available sunloungers. All guests are provided with beach towels (they always ask you for your room No). You leave it at the end of the day and are given a fresh one the next day. We had lunch at the bar on the terrace. It was OK, nothing special. The service was very friendly, though.
In the evening we decided to go to a local restaurant for a pizza. The lovely Francesco in the reception gave us a map and gave us very detailed instructions of how to get there. It turned to be a 5 minute walk! The pizzeria is called Il Paguro and they make excellent pizzas. The waiters don't speak much English so it helps if you speak a little Italian. A walk back isn't that scary as one person put it, but very pleasant. Also, the road is well-lit. After the meal we went back to the hotel and had some cocktails at the bar. The barman makes excellent Bellinis. He only uses fresh peach juice prepared by him. He was so happy that we liked his cocktails that when we came up to the bar to buy some water the next morning he said that he'd already prepared peach juice for us! The next day we decided to go to explore Fertilia at lunchtime. Unfortunately, most places were closed. We had lunch at the creperie there - the food was not very impressive. The cutlery and plates were plastic. We also had some ice-cream there. It was quite nice, but not amazing.
In the evening we decided to go to Alghero. Francesco very kindly recommended a good seafood restaurant. It is called Ristorante Borgo Antico. He called the restaurant and made a reservation for us and then called a taxi. Again, he gave us instructions of how to get there. The food was fantastic! Possibly, the best seabass I've ever had. And I know what I am talking about - I've had a lot of seabass. The restaurant is very popular - they were turning people down at 8pm saying that they are fully booked! The service was excellent, attentive without being obtrusive.
Next day it was time to go home . There was one problem - the checkout is a little early - 10am and our flight was at 9pm. We were told that we can put our suitcases behind the door in reception and use all hotel facilities. We spent all day by the pool and went for lunch to Il Paguro again. When it was time to leave we found that we had to change in the toilets. Unfortunately, the hotel doesn't have a "guest room" where the guests can change and have a shower. We couldn't resist having a cheeky Bellini from the bar while we were waiting for a taxi. We promised the wonderful people at the hotel that we'll be back and we will. I am planning to take my husband and children there next year.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff of the hotel for the fantastic stay we've had.
