"Great hotel"
Great hotel, not too far from the airport and away from the noiser part of the old town. Room was big and spacious, complementary toiletries. Rooftop pool was great and we watched the planes take off and land at the airport with hardly any noise. Beautiful views over the Baie des Anges. Breakfast buffet in the Bleu Citron restaurant (included in our room rate) had a large selection of fresh food.
On the minus side, no hotel shop to buy a paper, limited channels on tv (cnn and bbc world which showed the SAME documentaries again and again) and the movie channel was about 20 years behind the times. Limited menu at the poolside bar
Overall a good stay, and we wouls stay here again, but we would hire a car and use hotel as a base. Taxi's are ridiculously expensive

"Perfect stay! Concierge is fantastic"
My family and I stayed at the Radisson SAS for 6 days. The cost included a good buffet breakfast and access to their pool / private beach area. The staff was great, especially the concierge who gave us really good tips on places to go and see. We rented a car through the concierge and he advised us to see Vence and a couple of other smaller villages as we headed towards Cannes. While Cannes was interesting and lively, villages and small towns like Vence were much more lively and 'local.' Monaco is also very close by so having a car is definately a good idea. (I have a US drivers license and had no problems. Also, the roads are great so most people should not have a problem driving around. We did get a car with GPS which prevented arguments with my wife and I :) )
We also rented a bike for the day and rode around town with it. It was a great way to get around.
All in all, it was a fantastic trip. The Radisson SAS Nice is a very good hotel, with good service and good access to everything you need including a quick trip from the airport.
Advice: don't take a taxi from the airport to the hotel if you can avoid it....the 5 minute trip costed us $25 Euro since it was a 'standard' rate. Try and use the shuttle if you can.

"Great place"
We stayed at the Radisson SAS, Nice, France for 3 nights in early September, 2006. Having read many of the other reviews in this forum, we had mixed expectations. Most of them were exceeded.
Check-in was superb and efficient. The room was of exceedingly modern decor. Ours was on the 2nd floor backside, but the more costly ocean-side rooms have spectacular views of the beach and promenade. The city view from the 8th floor pool/lounge/restaurant is amazing, especially at night.
The location at the edge of the city is the worst thing about this hotel, from a tourist standpoint. They do provide a FREE hourly shuttle service to the Plaza Hotel (downtown at the edge of the Old City) that runs during the daytime. We found that to be most convenient. City buses are easy to use, go everywhere, and are reasonably priced. Don't worry about the "ladies of the night" that others have reported; we saw them along the main street, but they were far away from the Radisson--at least before 11pm.
The pool is free for hotel guests, but the third-party concessionnaire that operates it charges 15 Euros per day for use of the poolside lounge chairs and other facilities. The water was very cold. I had no problems with the poolside or downstairs bar service, and prices are what you'd expect at any fancy big-city hotel.
The breakfast buffet included in the price of our room was above average--lots of cold meats, cheeses, breads, and pastries; bacon, sausage, watery scrambled eggs, and Japanese miso soup and rice; but no omelets (in spite of the sign), French toast, or pancakes. We didn't eat any other meals at the hotel, so I cannot comment on the restaurants.
In-room WiFi service was free, but use of a hotel-provided terminal in the lobby was expensive. Large in-room safes are also provided free of cost. Foreign newspapers are free to guests, but they're kept under the concierge desk, so you must ask for them directly. Don't expect any U.S. papers before 9am.
The rooms themselves were reasonably-sized, squeaky clean, and very quiet. While it's not a particularly "grand" environment, it was a wonderful place as "headquarters" for our 3-day visit to Nice.

Radisson Nice
lovely seaview from room, but noise from very busy road made sitting on balcony impossible unless you are deaf! Long way from town center but taxis park in front of hotel.Food good. Roof top Pool cold but large and clean , we were not pleased to be charged $10 to use the sun loungers. The hotel rates were not cheap and to charge guests to sit by the pool is just not acceptable. The beach side restaurant in front of the hotel also charge to use the loungers even if you have a meal there. |
