"A good standard hotel with excellent location."
Being a well travelled travel agent, I have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world. For example, the last two times I was in Honk Kong for work, I stayed in both the Shangri La and the Peninsula.
I moved to the Regal after being displeased with a previous hotel for a 4 night stay, and although its not anywhere near the standard of some of the other higher rated hotels, it is still worthy of its 4* status. The location is excellrent, within easy walking distance of Causeway Bay.
The gym is need of a little work but I have seen a lot worse. The rooftpop pool is very pleasent.
The decor is not old-fashioned, it is in a 'Regal' style. It is the way they want it to look and I felt that although it was nice, it was trying to be a little too opulent for its own good.
I don't know about what type of room the previous reviewer stayed in because my room was very large, with two double beds, floor to ceiling windows and a very spacious bathroom, which had a corner bathtub and seperate shower. Apparently each room has a huge individually commisioned painting above each bed, above ours was one of a butterfly, which at first I thought was a little garish but grew to rather enjoy it.
If I was travelling on a budget, or if I couldn't get into the nicer hotels then I would stay here again.

"One of the Best"
I highly recommend the Regal Hong Kong hotel. We stayed there for 9 nights from 24th March – 2nd April 06.
We had actually wanted to stay in a hotel on the Kowloon side, but most hotels were full due to the rugby HK Sevens. However, it turned out we were very happy with Regal HK’s location. It is in the busy centre of Causeway bay with many shops (eg. Times square, Sogo) and restaurants nearby. An MTR station is just two minute walk away.
Our stay in the Regal HK included breakfast. It was an excellent buffet with a choice of western and Chinese food. We noticed Cathay Pacific flight staff (dressed in uniform) also regularly taking breakfast.
We were disappointed that the hotels swimming pool was closed due to renovation. Instead, we used the hotels fitness centre. It was equipped with a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi.
Our room was very clean.
We found the hotel staff very helpful and polite. We were made to feel very welcome.
In the past, we have stayed in several luxury hotels. We believe the Regal Hong Kong Hotel is one of the best.

"Excellent hotel"
Stayed at the Regal Hong Kong Hotel for 6 days from 1st - 7th March 05. It was an excellent hotel with a good location on Hong Kong Island. Our room on the 25th floor had a glimpse of Hong Kong harbour and Victoria Park.
Getting to the hotel from the Airport was a breeze. On arrival at the airport we located the information desk where a girl who spoke excellent English told us the train would leave from the airport and the trip to Hong Kong Island would take 23 minutes! The train departed on time with announcements in Cantonese, English & Mandarin (in that order) and very efficiently took us to HKI in 23 mins!! She also told us a bus would take us to the hotel and it would be waiting for us on our arrival at the train station in HKI - It was! The whole trip cost about £7 one way and worked like clockwork.
On arrival at the hotel we were shown to our room which was very well equipped with excellent toiletries and a super corner bath and separate shower.
The breakfasts at the hotel were buffet style and fantastic with a choice of western & Chinese food. As they were buffet style you could eat as much as you wanted. If you stay here, ensure you book the bed and breakfast option. The staff were friendly and efficient throughout our stay.
We didn't eat at any of the restaurants at the hotel apart from breakfast, but had we stayed longer we would have most certainly tried at least one. The only other place we ate in the hotel was the Sports Bar in the basement where we had access to all the European sports action - live on large screen tv's. The service and the drinks were great and the bar snacks we had were delicious and well priced. (Try the duck with pineapple barbecue sauce - fab!)
The hotel is not far from the Sogo department store (about 5 mins walk) and also about 5 mins walk from the nearest MTR (train) station which means you are well connected up with the rest of Hong Kong.
One of our trips to Kowloon involved a night at 'Ned Kelly's Last Stand' - a basic bar with possibly the best jazz in the whole of Hong Kong. Colin and the Band (Colin, it turned out was from Wallsend, Newcastle, UK) were the musicians and we had a great night which we would highly recommend to anyone visiting this fascinating corner of the globe. The only problem about this bar is that the toilets are outside! (Well, I told you it was basic.) But they are clean and, as I have said, the atmosphere of the venue and excellence of the band more than make up for the poor toilet facilities.
All in all a great hotel in a wonderful city. I would go back tomorrow.
