"genuine 5 star"
I've stayed in a few 5 stars but this beats them all. Recently renovated stop off hotel for the Orient Express. Superior rooms have excellent space, great beds, marble bathrooms but not overstuffy. Compared to Split or Dubrovnik good value at circa £130 per night. Breakfast bit pricy at £16 a head. Walk to centre is 10-12 minutes and hotel is next to railway station. Try and get room at front if sound trains passing bothers you but it didnt bother us as soundproofing was excellent.

"A Stunning Hotel"
This is a visually stunning hotel right from the moment of exiting the railway station and looking to the left to locate it about a 3 minute walk away. We were welcomed warmly by an efficient reception and given a glass of sparkling wine. They have spent a lot of money on the decor in every part of the hotel, including the bedrooms. The lift, the corridors, everything is magnifient - and tasteful as well. Our bedroom overlooked the square in front of the railway station and was beautifully furnished with all the trappings you would expect in a 5 star hotel. There was a safe and a free-standing shower in a large sumptious bathroom. Drink was dear in the bar but on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays there is a Happy Hour (18.00 to 20.00) with two for the price of one. But beware! Apparently Happy Hour is meant to be enjoyed on the outside terrace and if the weather is inclement and if you have to use the interior bar then Happy Hour is cancelled without anybody telling the guests. After a discussion with the Duty Manager we manged to sort this out but it shouldn't have been necessary. I don't think it was malicious but it certainly is thoughtless to leave guests in the misapprehension that Happy Hour could co-exist with bad weather! The restaurant looks magnificent and we had dinner there. Considering the setting the price of the meal was reasonable but the cost of a bottle of wine (any bottle, including Croatian wine) was extortionate and disproportionate to the overall cost of the meal. The food was lovely with the exception of the fillet mignon which was disappointingly tough. Go for something else! The service was excellent - attentive but discrete. The hotel is so convenient for the station and central Zagreb is well within walking distance. I rated the hotel overall as one of the most impressive I have ever stayed in and I would recommend a visit to anyone who goes to Zagreb.

"A Welcome Saviour of the Weary Traveller"
This is an excellent hotel – we were reluctant to leave. The Regent Esplanade evokes the romance, charm and elegance of a bygone era when it was first opened as an overnight stop for the passengers of the Orient Express. They are obviously the experts in welcoming the weary traveler. Check-in was efficient and came with a glass of champagne. We had tumbled through the doors after arriving from Ljubljana in the 40 degree heat hot, sweaty and disheveled. Needless to say, we felt very out of place. However thanks to the hotel and its staff, within an hour of arrival we were transformed into those well-heeled guests of the Orient Express whose portraits adorn the walls (… well, in my imagination at least). Throughout our stay, the staff was excellent – knowledgeable, polite and efficient. Our deluxe room was spacious and immaculately kept. The climate control airconditioning system was effective. The marble bathroom had underfloor heating (not that we would have minded the cool marble in the heat), a good sized bathtub and a shower with a rainforest shower head. There was free in room WiFi as well as a well equipped business centre. Zinfandel’s (the hotel’s restaurant) did a quality buffet breakfast and a la carte dinner. The hotel is centrally located and it was an easy walk to the main square. But beware - you may find yourself so spoilt by the hotel that you never leave its lobby!

"Divine time at the Regent"
We spent three divine days coddled and cared for at the Regent in Zagreb. What a splendid hotel, from check-in, to check out...restaurant, concierges, rooms....the whole experience was a-one. There was no other hotel which came close during our whole nineteen day stay in Germany, Slovenia, and Croatia. All I can say is AAH!!!!

"A World Class Hotel"
This is a world-class hotel. We’ve stayed at the Alvear Palace in Buenos Aires and the Peninsula in Hong Kong and The Regent Esplanade is in the same class. The place was elegant from check-in to check-out. It has been fully restored within the last two years. Spacious rooms with refrigerator, safe and turn down service with chocolates. The marble bathrooms are beautifully appointed and had a wonderful tub and separate enclosed shower, double sinks and lots of lights. The towels were huge and soft and very plentiful and of course robes and slippers were provided. Free web access was available in the business center. The public rooms of course are wonderful and the bar and restaurant have entertainment at various times. In the evening we enjoyed our cocktail and the piano music. While it is expensive by comparison to other Zagreb hotels, it is a bargain when matched to a comparable hotel in any other European capital and a nice luxury to enjoy.

"History, tradition and modern style"
Was delighted with the style, hygeine and presentation of the hotel. It was close to a number of great boutique stores including Kras Chocolate Shop and Croata tie shop (the worlds original tie maker). The hotel offers excellent meals, some of which are specially made from scratch and take a while. The bathroom was very clean and the little room add-ins were much appreciated. The staff were friendly and hanging out in the sports bar or rubbing shoulders with Shakira on the patio should give enough variety for the most difficult to please. The hotel is only 500m away from the Miramar Art museum, Archaeology museum and a number of smaller galleries. Safety is high on the list of my requirements and walking the streets at night was no problem at all. There are all kinds of small cafes and take away late into the night. I originally arrived by train which I highly recommend as the hotel is only 200m from the station. The trains travel across Austria and Slovenia through the worlds best kept secret ski fields. The ancient city is a small walk from the hotel and well worth the effort. The hotel caters for backpackers and VIP's every day of the week. There is something for everyone and I had a great time.

"Excellent choice"
The Esplanade is an excellent hotel. From the graciousness of the staff at our initial check-in experience, to the quality and cleanliness of the room, to the property's excellent location, our stay was a first-class experience. I would strongly recommend this hotel.

"Did not want to leave"
My complaint - that our stay was only 1 night. This was an amazing hotel - it deserves the 5 star rating. Our stay here was part of a 21 night trip, so we experienced many hotels, and this was the nicest - and had the best shower and bath (separate) of all the hotels. We also had the pleasure of dining in the hotel restaurant - excellent meal. I don't know when we will be back in Zagreb but when we are, this will be our hotel.

"Great Place !"
Was in this hotel in last days of july. Stayed there for 2 nights , what can i say , it's pretty good hotel , realy 5 stars hotel. I was also in Sheraton in Zagreb , and i can tell that Esplanade realy better , why you will ask , beacouse they just made restavration of their hotel , they made LAN internet cables in each room (if you have notebook , you can use internet from your room) or you always have free internet in the buisness center. Only one minus which i can tell about this hotel , that they don't have swimming pool(Sheraton has it) , maybe someone not interesting in it , so , then your choose must be Reget for sure in Zagreb ! Great rooms , everything near your hand whatever you want , if you need something you can always ask personal which working in hotel , they will help you kindly, it's not a problem at all. Of course , agree with other persons , great bathroom , one of the best , which i sow in hotels all over the world. I had only breakfast, but you , of course , can have a dinner and supper there , right in the hotel , or on the street , it's Reget restoraunt from which you have a view on square and fountain. Breafast is great also , you can choosie something from menu or take by "sweden table" , fresh juice and many else. So , in all , i can advice this hotel as for buisness trips , as for tourists , which want to be in nice place , near the centar , and just have good rest in Zagreb !

"A wonderful hotel"
After a 29 hour flight from Melbourne, it was a treat to stay at such a beautiful and well appointed hotel. My wife and I stayed in one of the deluxe rooms, which was a generous size, had a great bathroom and a lounge and desk. Very comfortable indeed. I don't know what the hotel looked like before the renovation, but it looks fantastic now. All staff were attentive and helpful, and the concierge was brilliant in checking out bus timetables and walking tours of the city for us. The breakfast here was one of the best I have experienced. While there is also a ground floor restaurant open for lunch and dinner, unlike previous reviewers we thought it was good rather than great. However, compared to other restaurants in Zagreb, you could do a lot worse than have dinner at the hotel restaurant for at least one night of your stay in Zagreb. In summary, a fantastic hotel for tourists and business travellers alike.
