The Residenza Cannaregio in the beginning was a monastery of the XVII century from that it has inherited the structure " a chiostro" with the typical internal court; in the first years of the XIX century it became a " squero " which was the place where they used to build gondolas; nowadays it has been transformed into a very modern and comfortable structure.

It is located in Cannaregio, one of the most authentic and picturesque areas of the city, where still today it is possible to find traditions of a popular Venice few steps from the Campo del Gheto Novo, the oldest jewish settlement in Europe and not far from Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco.

Thanks to the central position the Residenza Cannaregio is easy to reach by public boats and it is provided with a private access for the gondolas and water taxis on San Alvise Canal. To supply to the guests a pleasant stay the large bedrooms are enriched with mezanine floors and are equipped with all the modern comforts: air conditioning, mini bar, satellite TV, pay TV, internet point, wired radio and safe box.

To enjoy guests stay, an attentive staff is ready to satisfy the guest in the bar " Al Grappolo" where you could taste fine wine and to " Al Piron " restaurant that offers you � la carte menu with typical and international courses served on the " terrace " in the romantic venitian atmosphere of the inside garden.

LOCATION

The old name of this sestiere was Cannarecium. It is located north of the Grand Canal. According to some historians, the name Canaleclo was given in the 9th and 10th centuries for the numerous fresh water (possibly created by the river Brenta) reed thickets of the area.

The Cannaregio district of Venice is one of the few parts of the city where Venetians still live in great numbers. Its numerous restaurants offer some of the best cuisine available in Venice at very reasonable prices. Especially in and around the Ghetto area of Cannaregio and the Fondamenta della Misericorda where you'll find a good selection of both regional and ethnic restaurants.

One of the last parts of the historic center of Venice to be developed, its canals are remarkably straight and well organized. From the Fondamenta Nuova you can enjoy sweeping views of the Northern Lagoon and the Islands of San Michele and Murano.

A popular place for artists to have lived over the centuries, you can pass-by Tintoretto's house and visit his local parish church, the Madonna dell'Orto, which houses work by the great artist. The name of the church originates from a weeping statue found in a nearby garden. Other churches worth visiting in the Cannaregio district include the Santa Maria dei Miracoli which sits like a jewel box overlooking a charming canal. The Church of the Gesuti has a spectaclar interior made of marble, as well works by some of Venice's famous artists.

There are numerous local markets located throughout the Cannaregio district serving the numerous Venetians who still live in the area, and providing lively and colorful scenes for visiting tourists. Canneregio is home to the Santa Lucia railway station, which makes it a pratical place location to stay for tourists arriving or leaving Venice by train.
