"Very Good Hotel (with slight reservations)"
I stayed at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead for 2 nights in June 2006. I had a short business meeting in Atlanta. Since the timing worked out well, my wife came along too and we stayed an extra day for pleasure. We stayed on the Ritz Carlton Club level. Looking back on it, everything about this hotel was done very well---bed was very comfortable, check-in was excellent, valets provided bottled water when they got you your car, furnishings were typical Ritz-Carlton. For some reason, though, I cannot get real excited about this place---the basic building just seemed to be too much of a standard upscale suburban hotel for me to really rave about. Perhaps I was disappointed that it wasn't more pedestrian- friendly, although to be fair, most of the other hotels in Buckhead would have this same issue. Room was very moderate in size (though nicely decorated), and bathroom was OK, but nothing particularly special.
On the positive side, the service and food in the Ritz Carlton lounge were great----5 different settings per day---all included pretty decent complimentary champagne, so its hard to complain about that! Lunch and cocktail settings had a pretty good wine selection too.
I think this hotel would be a good place if you're doing business in or near Buckhead, or if you want to enjoy Buckhead shopping and restaurants. Just don't set your expectations too high---its a nice place with traditional furnishings and good service, but just lacks that special "character" that could raise it another notch .
