LOCATION
The exclusive Rodian Amathus Beach is located in the picturesque resort of Ixia, just 4 km from the town of Rhodes. This beautiful and luxurious 5-star hotel benefits from a fantastic location overlooking the beach. Rodian Amathus Beach is situated in a lush green hillside right on the beach.
The Greek island of Rhodes has a “colossal” history, and it was home to one of the original Seven Wonders of the World. The Colossus of Rhodes was erected in 293 B.C., which stood on the island until being destroyed by an earthquake around 227 B.C. It is a land rich in history, and filled with tales of war, conquest, re-conquest and finally liberation.
Documented history of Rhodes dates back to 1500 B.C. when the Mycenanean Greeks conquered the island. Three major city-states were founded, and these included Ialyssos, Lindos and Kamiros. The Persians later conquered much of the island in 491 B.C., but the city-state of Lindos held out and later Rhodians acceded to the Athenian alliance during the Classical Age. The island was part of the Roman Empire and later the Byzantine Empire. King Richard I of England, the Lionhearted, visited Rhodes during the Third Crusade in 1191 A.D. He plundered the island of various goods and animals and recruited soldiers to join his army. Many of these men would return however with more plunder on their minds, and 10 years later during the Fourth Crusade the Crusader knights besieged and took the island by force from the Byzantines. The Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem bought the island in 1309 A.D., only to leave in 1522 A.D. when it fell to the invading Turks.

A great holiday
My partner and i have just returned from out stay in Rhodes, at the Rodian Amathus. I thought i would write a review. We have returned from a great holiday, and a great hotel and were more than happy with the whole holiday. The hotel was big, clean, very stylish in public areas, with many great restuarants, which are expensive but very good. We stayed half board, having breakfast and dinner buffets. Both of which were excellent,The food was really great, fantastic choice, and quality. The service in the main restaurant was wonderful, from being greeted everytime you walk in, to being seated and incredibly efficient waiters. would defintaly return to this hotel, if i were to return to Rhodes, for me, it gave a completley hassle free holiday... |

"Excellent Hotel"
We stayed at the Rodian Amathus hotel for our honeymoon July - Aug 2005. We only booked to go there 2 days before and we emailed the hotel to say we were on our honeymoon and they upgraded us to one of the Bungalows on the 11th floor. The bungalow was very spacious and had all the facilities you would expect for a five star hotel. Maid service every day with an additional check in the evenings if required.
The food was also excellent, a good choice of food greeted us every morning and evening and it was a good balance for both vegetarians and non vegetarians.
The hotel has 3 pools, plenty of sunbeds and entertainment most nights. The hotel is situated 5 mins from the main shops and restaurants, it also has its own beach area and sunbeds for hotel guests. Beach towels are provided fresh every day.
An all round excellent hotel which we would definitely return to.

"A lovely holiday"
I have just returned from the hotel , we booked a late deal (I booked it Thursday and we travelled Saturday )and didnt know where we were going to,we ended up at the Rhodian Amathus Hotel. The food was very, very good, the staff wonderful,we really enjoyed our stay. A basket of fruit and a half bottle of wine was provided to welcome us to the Hotel. It was my husband's birthday whilest we staying there and he was given a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
One of the downsides was the pebbley beach and the wind on the beach. The sea was quite fierce at times and "knocked one off the feet", I lost my sunglasses as I was buffeted by the waves and the stones were very uncomfortable to stand on, shoes were needed. The drinks in the hotel were very expensive too.
I also thought tea making facilities would have been nice in the rooms, and also tooth picks at the tables, and shower facilities when having a late flight as we had(2.20 a.m )Overall a very good holiday.

"Fantastic Honeymoon"
We stayed at the Rodian Amathus for our Honeymoon in September. We were greeted with a basket of fruit, bottle of champagne and a half bottle of wine in our room when we arrived which was a good start! We were on the 8th floor with a balcony and sea view. The room itself was lovely and the bed was huge!
The hotel has 3 outdoor pools (and one indoor in the Spa). We spent most of our time by the 11th floor pool which did not get over-crowded, had plenty of sunbeds and parasols and towels were provided by the hotel. The whole atmosphere of the hotel was calm, peaceful and very restful!
The service at the hotel was impeccable. The staff in the restaurant both in the morning and the evening were so polite and we never had to wait to be seated (unless you wanted to wait for a seat on the balconies). The maid service was brilliant, the rooms were made up every day and they came back at night to turn the beds down and leave chocolates on the pillows! We booked half board and the choice of food both at breakfast and in the evening was fantastic (drinks are expensive though so it's best to go out and sample the local bars in the evening). If you wanted to eat out at night you could exchange your evening meal for lunch at one of the two restaurants at the hotel instead which we did on a few occasions.
The beach is reached via a tunnel from the hotel but is pebbly so not really to be recommended if you have small children or are after a "beach holiday". The wind is quite strong on this side of the island but is perfect for the watersports that are on offer along the beach.
Ixia itself is relatively quiet but there are some lovely bars and restaurants along from the hotel – The Coconut Club is to be recommended, staff are very friendly and the food is lovely! Must visits are Rhodes Town and Lindos (which we did via boat which was lovely!).
We would definitely recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in going back again!
