"Delicious!"
We stayed at the Hotel Roemer for 3 nights over the American Thanksgiving weekend. We reserved 2 rooms adjacent to each other (numbers 29 and 30) for my wife and I, and our three young children. Our stay could not have been anymore perfect! We specifically looked for a new, modern, design boutique hotel, of which there are very few in Amsterdam. This one truly fit us perfectly. The staff (every single one of them!) were young, friendly, and fun; we were told that our rooms would probably not be ready upon our early morning arrival from NYC; however, when we got to the hotel, the previous occupants had just checked out and the staff bent over backwards to have the rooms cleaned and readied for us. In the meantime, we were offered complimentary cappucinos and breakfast, in front of the blazing fireplace!
The rooms are truly gorgeous - our room had a huge, REAL king size bed, wonderfully comfortable. The rooms have TOTAL blackout and are dead silent, assuring a great night sleep. The large windows make the rooms bright and cheerful, and there is soft lighting at night (which can be cranked up for brighter atmosphere). The stone bathrooms are gorgeous, with a huge jaccuzzi tub and a great separate rainshower. It is true that the small touches have not been completed - a few pieces of artwork and full length mirrors - but rest assured, on the day of our departure they were being delivered on our way out. The hotel staff even deliver tiny goody-bags (different each day) at turn down service. There are two free computer terminals for internet access in the lobby - so convenient. The ipod speakers were great in the room, as were those infamous flat panel TV's (great for watching French and British news while taking a jacuzzi!). We even rented bikes directly from the hotel to do a family tour of Amsterdam (all the way to the Eastern Docklands) - so incredibly convenient and very cool black bikes! The hotel is perfectly situated - 2 minutes to Leidseplein, but in a gorgeous residential area so totally quiet and not 'rowdy' like some parts of the city. Just around the corner from the lush Vondelpark (read: Central Park) and the inspiring Museumplein (van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum). All in all, couldn't have asked for anything more from this hotel - perfect, warm, intimate, friendly, and incredibly luxurious and convenient. Many thanks for treating our children so wonderfully, and for indulging us on this holiday. We will absolutely be back, and can't wait! A highly recommended 5 star stay in Amsterdam!

"possibly the best hotel I have ever stayed at (definitely in Amsterdam)"
My friend and I have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Hotel Roemer and similarly to the previous reviewer I cannot describe enough how impressed we were with both the quality of accommodation and the friendliness of the staff. Our room was elegant and sumptuous with 3 plasma screens, expresso machine, jacuzzi and walk in shower...we couldn't believe our luck! Generally the interior decor is contemporary, stylish, warm and welcoming and as an architect I could appreciate the quality and attention to detail. The young and glamorous staff did everything to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Previous 'boutique' hotels I have stayed have suffered from arrogant service whereas at the Hotel Roemer it was like staying with (new) friends.
I am a fairly frequent visitor to Amsterdam and have stayed in numerous hotels especially around the Vondel Park area and this has to be the best hotel I have stayed infact I am struggling to think of anywhere else that matches up. It is still a well kept secret but I am sure that is about to change. The room rate was very reasonable but as this was an opening offer I am hoping it doesn't increase too much because I will definitely be booking a return trip in Spring.
This is the first time | felt impressed enough to write a review of a hotel I have stayed in... I can't recommend Hotel Roemer highly enough.

"Loved the hotel"
I stayed at the Roemer hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of December 06. Initially I had booked a double room at the sister hotel - the Vondel, but upon arriving apparently there was some misunderstanding with my booking and they redirected me to the Roemer. I was not at all annoyed as the staff apologised and tried to make it up to me by giving me a better room for the same price, and on the other hand I was curious to check out the Roemer as I had read some good reviews about it and knew that it had recently been renovated.
I was not at all dissapointed. The hotel is very well located, close to Liedsplain and the museums, but in quiet residential area. It's not a big hotel, it's boutique style and has a very intimate air about it. Right by the reception and bar area there is a lovely sitting room with a fireplace and that, on the wet and cold winter evening when I arrived, was just what I needed to relax and begin to enjoy my stay.
My room wasn't too big but not too small either, it had a very nice big bed - king size - very comfortable with a warm winter feather quilt and crispy clean sheets. There was a flat screen TV in the bedroom as well as a smaller one in the bathroom which was very well eqiped - there were the usual (and good quality) amneties, as well as a weighing scale, blow dryer etc and there was a big bathub with jacuzzi and a separate rain shower. There was a small sitting area and the usual coffee/expresso machine free of charge and minibar. The room I stayed in had a good size balcony but couldn't enjoy it because of the bad weather. Everything was very clean and comfortable and the option of having air conditioning was an advantage. You can tell the hotel has been recently renovated, and if you want to be picky you may notice that the fine details (like the space between the tiles in the bathroom or the corners of the walls) have a bit of a rough finish but that really didn't stop me from enjoying all the other pluses.
I can't say enough how helpful and kind and pleasent the staff was, ready to answer any question, giving me a small map of A-dam and helping with directions, lending me an umbrella, and they also had free of charge DVD's to watch as the room came with a DVD player as well.
Upon arrival I had a complimentary drink (I had asked for a glass of champagne at the bar and was pleasently surprised when presented with the bill to find out that I didn't have to pay for it as it was complimentary) and after I checked out I had a few more minutes to kill before my airport shuttle came and I was offered (again free of charge) one of the best capuccino's I've had.
All in all had a very good stay at the Roemer and will not hesitate to recommend it or go there myself again. |
