"Swiss Hospitality at its best !"
Very romantic - like in the movies had a fantastic stay (used other hotel's in Chur, this is by far the best). typically for its region, managed by a highly motivated crew. Will return and recommend. |

"Just lovely"
I have stayed at the Stern a couple of times now - before/after a change in management, and continue to be impressed with the standard.
Let's get the negatives out of the way first: the lift is a bit dinky, like many in Switzerland, and has no inside door. The church next door rings its bells frequently. Not every hour as far as I could tell, but whenever there's a service, so one or two times a day, and that can be fairly early in the morning. It didn't really bother us much to be honest.
The room was a touch on the small side, but we were getting a special rate through some work contacts so I guess I can't complain, especially as it was - like all rooms in the Stern as far as I can tell - well furnished with a nice little array of freebies.
The bed was really comfy (though we did tire of the Swiss inability to conjure up double beds rather than two single mattresses on one frame. Do Swiss couples just not snuggle up in the night?)
Breakfast was a triumph. I was particuarly taken with the muesli mill - a selection of bowls of grains and a machine to flatten them into muesli. Brilliant. Not that I used it, I was too busy filling up on all the other wonderful things including a selection of yummy local alpine cheeses and some traditional Swiss Birchermuesli.
The hotel restaurant is also very good, traditional in style and serves excellent traditional local food based on locally-produced ingredients. We had two main courses (so hearty we couldn't finish) and a tall wheat beer each for about 40 francs, so the value isn't bad as Switzerland goes and there appeared to be a good supply of locals eating, which is always a good sign.
