"Good food"
Great location with plenty of parking. No need to drive as variety of activities from shopping to mountain walking on the doorstep! Booked into large top priced room with nice touches: bathrobes, choccies, water, local mags etc. Bits of hotel bit faded but owner clearly investing. High spot is dining, lovely restaurant, with good choice from 2 menu's - one changes daily. Top notch food worthy of at least 4* hotel. If you like good wine the owner clearly has a taste for top wines. Service friendly and efficient if a bit speedy at times!! Two nice lounges, with coffee and sickly chocs served outside the dining room. Housekeeping in bedrooms let us down, glasses not changed one day, only one small bath oil for two. Very walker friendly. So if you want a fantastic location with top notch food in the central lakes this is for you!

"Restaurant excellent"
Didn't stay at the hotel but had dinner there and that was a pleasurable experience. The food was excellent, very well presented and balanced - superb beef en croute preceded by imaginative salmon combinations. We found it an added bonus to have enthusiastic, polite and charming Russian and Polish waitresses. The wine was also very good value with a mark-up well below the norm - £29 in the restaurant for a wine costing nearly £19 on internet buying. In the context of this, any minor irritations in the bar were soon forgotten.
