Hotel Information
'Stornoway's most historic hotel.
Royal Hotel Stornoway is a nice traditional hotel that enjoys a delightful view over the colourful, bustling harbour and marina to the splendour of Lews Castle and grounds and it is convenient for all the towns' amenities.
The traditional Hebridean hospitality that has been part of the service since the 1850's is still very much in evidence. The age of the building gives the hotel real character and a warm welcome awaits all guests providing an ideal base to explore Lewis. Rightly known as 'Stornoway's most historic hotel' - the Royal is right beside the marina, where you can relax, enjoy the hotel's cosy character and enjoy dining in the Boatshed Restaurant or in HS1, the town's first cafe bar.
It's said that Lord Leverhulme used to sit in the oriel window of his room, watching the goings on prior to moving in to the castle.
Rear facing rooms are in more contemporary style, are comfortable and a little quieter than those facing the street at the front - though this small town is rarely noisy!
At the Royal Hotel by the Stornoway marina, enjoy the tastiest, most laid-back kind of delicious Sunday lunch you can get. It's new, it's casual, it's easy.
Stone circles on earth embankments were built around 3000 BC and it's thought that a structure was built at about that time, which would be surrounded by the ring at Callanish.
Which beach is the best is a matter for debate, but Bosta must be high on the list. At the northern tip of Great Bernera and around 45 minutes drive away, a place where, on a still, warm day, you could be forgiven for thinking you were basking beside the Indian Ocean.
A little beyond the turn off to Bosta, you'll find Uig beach, probably the largest expanse of soft sand on the island.
Whether your interests are in sea birds, waders, raptors or the elusive corncrake, Lewis offers them all. There are so many varieties of flora and fauna in the Hebrides, that you're sure to find something of interest.

* Here at the Boatshed you'll find great tastes, some traditional and some from further afield. What's common to all the dishes, is that they're arranged in a creative manner that makes looking almost as inetresting as tasting. On a cool evening, the cosy open fire casts its warmth, while the thick stone walls and floor help keep the restaurant cool on hot summer nights.
