nice stay
We had a trip to london last year with school. We chose Royal National because it was cheap and looked comfortable. Our stay was nice. There was nothing special but OK. Location was good. English breakfast was not that bad. We loved the concierge they were very friendly towards us. I recommend it |

awful!!
I cannot believe other reviews!? We stayed there in the Spring and it was awful. Only suitable for backpackers. It was grubby. Wallpaper peeling off the walls. Bathroom pokey. Foreign students running through the corridors banging on doors at 1am/2am. Reception not interested. Breakfast worse than poor. There are far better hotels in this area at a similar price. Location is great - we love London. We went to eat in Browns in Covent garden it's modern and reasonable and went to see Avenue Q it's naughty and very funny. But this hotel NEVER again. |

"Don't Worry- This place is perfect for experiencing the UK."
My family and I (2 Adults/15 yr. old) recently spent Easter weekend (4days) using The Royal National for our base of operations. We all thought the place was more than adequate in terms of comfort, cleanliness, and a friendly, very helpful staff.
We shared a triple which had plenty of towels, hot water, phone&TV. No problem with getting "knocked up". We just had to tell the maid when we would be leaving the room for the day.
Great location! Russell Square just down the street is a Gem! Excellent Park Cafe located within. Coffee Shop located steps away provides the traditional English Breakfast with some of the best espresso and cappucini this side of Milan. The Pub attached to the hotel was perfect and served tasty food.
Booking day trips done right at the hotel with a very helpful and patient staff. Tip: Evan Evan's Tours to Windsor, Bath, and Stonehenge was a great time.
Special Kudos to Concierge staff for their helpfulness.
If you want a perfect spot for your base that won't tear a hole in your wallet, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The National.

"fantastic place"
hi am 18 years old and visited the royal national hotel, the rooms were brilliant, me and my two companions had an ample of room as we were in a 3 bedroom room. yes the hotel was lacking in amineties such as an adiquate suplly of towels. But we had a televison a kettle cups and of course tea bags. the rooms would of benefited a fridge though for the milk. getting to the hotel was easy its just a tube away and fantastic in rush hours as there were many lifts that cated for allthe people and of coure there were stairs that one could take. i realy enjoyed my stay at the hotel however the breakfast was abit of a scandal and the meals were disgusting but again there are many restarunts, and they can accomodate for any budget. |

"worth a stay"
We stayed at this hotel two different times. Both times I was very satisfied. The front desk people were courteous and helpful. The rooms were clean and had great hot water. It was quiet despite the number of young people present. The included breakfast was good but a real bargain if you paid the added money for a full breakfast.
For the size of this hotel I was very satisfied with the level of service and amenities.
I will stay again |

"Very helpful staff, great hotel, would definitely stay there again!"
This hotel was great. We stayed there twice in December 2005 as we used London as a base to see Europe and the UK. This hotel is very very good value for money. I had no problems at all.
The breakfast was great. While only a continental breakfast, the food was fresh and there was plenty of it. In our second stay we were upgraded to a full hot breakfast, which was really nice. It consisted of eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, hot oats, juice and cereals (and more things I've forgotten). The breakfast area was open and clean. Yes this hotel has a lot of rooms and therefore many people, but the noise at breakfast was not a problem (I didn't notice excessive noise at all).
In our first night in London, straight off a long haul flight from Australia, we made the mistake of looking for somewhere to eat in the local Russel Square area for our evening meal. We found a local pub a few streets away which didn't use gloves to handle food and the food was substandard. On our second stay we decided to check out the restraunt of the Royal National. Well, I know where I will be eating next time. The meal was really nice, just like home made. It was around 5 pounds for a meal. Great value in London. We had a roast dinner and dessert.
This hotel is conveniently located to Russel square tube station. It is only a short walk away. Also, we did a city tour with Big Bus tours which had a stop just outside!
The rooms and the hallways are not modern, however if you are wanting to waste money on such things then go for a five star hotel. If you are more intersted in value for money and a comfortable hotel, then the Royal National is perfect!! The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. The whole hotel was clean. Could not recommend it more strongly. |
