Ideally located close to the third University of Rome, the hotel bears the name of the magnificent Basilica of St. Paul, whose origins go back to the time of Constantine.

LOCATION

Nearby you can find:

- The Basilica di San Paolo Fuori le Mura: the widest of Roman patriarchal basilicas, after San Pietro. The Basilica is just a 10 minute walk from the hotel Saint Paul (metro stop: basilica San Paolo).

- The Catacombs on the Apian Way allows you to trace the origins of the Christian presence in Rome and to explore one of the fundamental aspects of its identity. The Catacombs are in fact the underground cemeteries of the early Christians, located outside the city walls in accordance with the ancient custom that forbade the burying of the dead in the inhabited area. To get there take a bus from Pyramid (3 metro stops away from Basilica San Paolo).

- Stop at Pyramid for a quick visit to an imitation of the Egyptian pyramid called Caius Cestius that were in fashion in Rome after the conquest of Egypt.

- Discover the Trastevere quarter (in Latin, Trans Tiberim) across the Tiber. Up until Augustus, the right bank of the Tiber was outside the city limits, at present Trastevere is one of the most fashionable and charming places in Rome.

- Stroll through the small streets of the borough to the heart of Trastevere to the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere. According to tradition this was the first Catholic Church in Rome to be dedicated to the Virgin Mary and originally it dates back to the 3rd century.

- The Coliseum (Colosseo, Colosseum), was built during the reign of Emperor Vespasiano c. 72 AD and dedicated in 80 AD by his son Titus. The popular name of Coliseum came about because the immense oval stadium was situated next to a colossal statue of Nero. The original name of this ancient Roman sports arena, the largest arena of its kind, is The Amphitheatrum Flavium (3 stops away from Basilica San Paolo, line B).

"Great short stay at the Hotel Saint Paul"
We have just returned from a short break at the Hotel St Paul in Rome. the staff and welcome was reassuring and caring. The location although not in the centre of Rome was very easy for travel by the Metro to any areas of Rome. The breakfasts were wholesome and filling, recommendations for restaurants from the hotel staff for evening meals were very good. The rooms were clean and decorated to a good standard. It was the staff though who made the stay in the Hotel St Paul such a success, and we thank them for making our short break so great.

"Great hotel, friendly staff and fantastic value for money"
What can I say? The rooms were comfortable, spacious and well furnished with well stocked minibars. The bathrooms were extremely well decorated with plenty of complimentary toiletries and there were more than ample towels, pillows, sheets and blankets. We had a room with a balcony and although it overlooked the road we didn't hear much traffic noise. The breakfast was one of the best "continental" breakfasts I've had in europe with a wide selection of meats, cheeses, sausage (hot dogs), bacon, eggs, fruits, yoghurts, cereals and an extremely wide selection of pastries and breads. There was also a selection of hot drinks and fruit juices. Perhaps one of the best features of this hotel is its reception staff who speak extremely good english. We found them helpful, polite and very eager to please. NOTHING SEEMED TOO MUCH TROUBLE!!! Although a fair distance from the city centre, this hotel isn't far from the metro which leads you to the major sites. We found it easier to get a taxi from the airport and then find the metro to go into town once we had deposited our luggage!!! Excellent value for money - you would be hard pressed to find as nice and friendly hotel in the centre. A word of warning though, there aren't many restaurants or bars near the hotel but we just hopped on the metro in the evening and headed into the city!!!

"Excellent Hotel!"
Just got back from 7 nights at this hotel and I cannot really think of anything bad to say. The hotel staff all speak english, not perfectly but what do you expect when it isn't their first language. Had no communication problems at all. The buffet breakfest was excellent, several types of meats and cheeses, with pastries, breads, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage (well okay hot dogs), fruit, cereal, and so on. It was excellent and it is served from 7am to 10:30am, we slept in one day and made it down at about 10am and everything was still out and available. The room was an *08 room and was perfect. I would recommend anything from the 2nd floor up. Our first room was on the 1st floor and we did not like the fact that workmen could see into our bathroom so we asked for a new room and got it right away without any problems, the staff was very polite and quick about it. The new room was a similar layout as the other, it was clean and had everything you could ask for. The shower is a power shower and was excellent. The air con/heat was sweet and allowed you to set the room nicely. The floor we were on was filled and yet we heard very little noise at night. Out of the 7 nights the bed was perfect, the temperature in the room was just right. Slept like a baby. The location is perfect, considering the price you pay. This hotel was a lot cheaper than the ones right in the centre of Rome. The transportation from this hotel to Rome is way better than being in Rome and paying an arm and a leg. The 170 bus picks you up right across the street and takes less than 20 minutes to get to the main terminal. It also stops at some sweet spots before hand so you can get off and do the sight seeing. If you want to walk to the Metro goto Marconi station it is only 6 minutes away, YES 6 MINUTES ONLY! You just walk to the main road and go left and boom you are there. It isn't confusing or too far to go. The Saint Paul stop seems to take longer since it isn't a direct route. As for things near by, there is some shops down the street if you take the bus for 5 minutes there is a load of shops (less expensive compared to the centre of Rome), restaurants are not great in the area although the shop next to the bus stop makes nice sandwiches and has great snacks too. By Saint Paul Metro keep going and the second street on the right there is a really nice Chinese Food restaurant (cheap and very good, I know when in Rome you should be eating pasta, etc. but it was the only place we knew would be open on Christmas Day for dinner). The hotel is still having some work done on it, only on the outside and as I said the *08 rooms and anything before that is well away from the noise and to be honest I heard very little until I walked by during the day time, never had a problem at night or in the morning. Overall the stay was great, the price was amazing, the staff were FANTASTIC (be polite and try to speak a little Italian it goes a long way as we saw and expereniced, trust me try to learn a bit), food was great, the location was perfect for us since it was in a nice area and close to all major transportation without the problems that happen around Termini (main train station) plus the buses are always half full and they come every 20 minutes while at Termini getting packed onto a metro car with 100+ people is not a fun day out. We stayed as I said for 7 nights, get a 7 day Metro/Bus ticket and for 16 Euro and you will not have to worry about swiping, or validating anything. With that we saw everything we wanted to and more. Had a great time and when I go back to Rome I will be staying here as long as the prices dont change too much.

This hotel was very nice and the staff is extremly helpful. The hotel is about 8 blocks from the train station. Get very good directions to the hotel before you go or else you will never be able to find it.
