"Beautiful Vancouver - excellent hotel"
We stayed at the Sandman Hotel in downtown Vancouver on West Georgia Street recently during a week's stay in Vancouver for some concerts at GM Place. It's proximity to GM place was the main reason for us selecting the Sandman and if you are attending any events at GM Place
or BC Place the hotel is perfectly situated and no more than a five minute walk away. We found our room in the South tower very spacious (king size bed, sofa and chairs, fridge and microwave) and clean and the hotel staff all very friendly. The bath and bathroom were on the small side but still perfectly acceptable. Being in the South tower also meant there was some distance between our room and the hotel's Shark Bar which can get pretty boisterous. The Sandman is only a very
short walk to many areas of interest such as Canada Place, Gastown and the shopping on Robson Street. For breakfast, Moxie's Grill in the hotel complex was ideal but could be busy unless you were a particularly early or late riser. Vancouver seems to have a Starbucks
on ever corner if you need regular caffeine fixes. If you're staying in the city don't miss out on a trip up Grouse Mountain (far superior
views of the city than going up the rather disappointing Look Out observatory), to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, and be sure to hire bikes for a ride through beautiful Stanley Park. If you have any aches and pains we'd recommend avoiding the trolley bus city tours as
they seem to be devoid of any form of suspension and choose an alternative tour that runs on pneumatic tyres! Our best day excursion
was on the Rocky Mountaineer train up to Whistler and back. Fantastic
views of Howe Sound and the Coast mountains and great onboard service
- their website is [----] for anyone considering this. We booked our stay at the Sandman through [----] in the UK and got a very competitive price. One tip - we'd recommend a taxi to and from the airport - allow $30 minimum from the airport to downtown - as we heard some real horror stories about lengthy delays and the unreliability of the shuttle buses running to/from the airport.

"Don't listen to the bad reviews!"
I was a little nervous because of some of the reviews. We had a perfect stay, start to finish. The front desk staff were very friendly and accomodating, the room was clean with a wonderful view of the water and downtown Vancouver, and it was walking distance to Gastown and Davie Street. The elevators were a bit small and slow; but, really, if that's the ONLY complaint about a hotel, they're doing SOMETHING right! I'd certainly stay here again!

"Great hotel, and location however....."
This hotel is located in a great area down town, its a short walk away to the harbor, or a 5 min cab drive away from stanley park. Theres many nice restaruants and shops within a minutes walk. During my stay there were building a fancy looking restaruant into the premises.
This Hotel has a really contemporary look to it. The lobby looks great, nothing spectacular like many of the upscale hotels such as the Pinnacle, or the Renaissaince but it is nice and tranquil.
I would really suggest getting a room with a kitchenette, once again the rooms have a contempory look, and theres a store right across the street, where you can buy a few groceries.
Rooms have a balcony, and it is well worth the money staying here.

"Great Hotel in Vancouver-I highly recommed it!"
We stayed at the sandman hotel downtown vancouver, and in all my travels, i have never had such a great experience at a hotel! The room was clean, and facilities were great. I requested an extra blanket to be brought to the room, and with in about 10 minutes it was delivered. Even though they were extremly busy-maybe full, but not too sure-the staff did great, keeping their cool and hleping out. Although I was not too happy about paying 10.00 per night for parking, overall the stay was great. i will definatly be returning to the Sandman in Vancouver (by bc place) for a long time to come |

"GREAT!!"
Stayed here from 2nd to the 12th October 2006. It was great, this was my first major holiday with my girlfriend and we loved it. Everything was clean, staff were polite and the rooms were comfortable! It had a good location i thought as everything was in easy walking distance of about 5 mins obviously depending on where u want to go! A big plus side for the hotel is that is has the Moxies Bar and Grill and the Shark Club Bar and Grill as these two were both extremely good for food and drink!! Of course if u wanted to venture out in the evening for a restaurant then u could but if u didnt want to, then all u had to do what go down a few levels from your room via the lift.
The only very small complaint i had was that the windows were pretty thin so i could hear a lot of traffic at night but i would expect the higher your room the less you would hear! Besides your in the middle of a city so i didnt expect to have quiet traffic!!!!
If i went to Vancouver again this would definitely be on my list of hotels to look at as its very reasonably priced and i liked its location! Highly recommended!

the fumes were intoxicating
Stayed in this hotel from April 21-22; only two nights. Vancouver is a beautiful place. This hotel is conveniently located and the staff are very friendly.
Moxies is great and there was a friendly waitress that made our dinner very relaxing and enjoyable. |

Helpful staff, great location
The room was small but clean. The a/c quit but maintenance was there within 5 minutes to fix it.
Best part of the hotel is the location. Right across the street from GM Place where I was going to see a concert.
I would stay there again.
