The building dates from the 14th century and is located in Pisa not far from the Leaning Tower and near to the Congress Palace. "simplicity and cleanliness"
Just returned a short holiday from Santa Croce in Fossabanda hotel. It was formerly a monestery so has an old touch. I was impressed by its authentic atmosphere. I booked a historical single room. It was comfy and clean. The hotel personel was helpful, I especially liked the receptionist. Varied breakfast offers you as much as you can eat that was great! I spent the weekend there but I will go again and stay much more longer!

Good for a one or two night stay
The hotel is full of character and very clean. Very easy to walk into town from here. However, we were unable to get anything to drink in the evening after a walk (15 - 20 minutes each way) into town and back, coffee was available from a vending machine. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. The bathroom was clean but not luxurious as described by others. We didnt see any shops or restaurants open in the immediate area, only a few bars. The hotel parking is secure. Reasonably close to the airport though the signs are few and far between and difficult to follow. Arrived at the airport by accident rather than directions.

"excellent position for pisa and the airport"
Have just come back from Italy having stayed in Santa Croce on our first and last night. The hotel was ideal for our family. We had two spacious interconnecting rooms which were clean, cool and peaceful. Breakfast was a good selection of cereals, breads, fruits, yogurts, meats and cheeses and as much as you wanted. The staff were friendly and helpful and there is a resident white rabbit in the central courtyard to the children's amusement. The centre of Pisa is easily within walking distance and there is an excellent organic restaurant just around the corner (La taverna di Pillo, Via del Borghetto 39). The hotel parking is secure and was uncrowded during our visit. The hotel is about 5-10 minutes drive from the airport which made it an ideal place to stay the night before an early flight.

"A great place to unwind"
We spent a couple of nights in Pisa after a busy week in Florence, and Santa Croce was ideal. It's a converted convent, and the owners have decided to keep the minimalist air. + Comfortable air conditioned rooms. + Clean + Large courtyard to relax day or night. + Helpful and friendly staff + Good Buffet-style breakfast (you can eat in the courtyard) + It may be 20 minutes walk to the Leaning Tower and 15 minutes to the station, but it's a level walk, and its 2 minutes to the nearest bus stop. + You can get cold and hot drinks at reasonable prices (from vending machines in reception) - The church bells do wake you at 7.30am - but you will love the Santa Croce for it's character. We would go back again.

"Lovely hotel, not so lovely city"
The hotel is lovely and is very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. As stated by others the rooms are quite sparce but contain everything you need. Breakfast is also very good. It takes about 10-15 mins to walk to the centre of Pisa and about 30-40 mins to the tower. As for Pisa itself we were so disappointed as during the three days we spent there we could not find any shops open or any decent restaurants to dine in. Overall the hotel is very good, the tower and duomo are well worth a visit but don't expect too much from Pisa itself.

"lovely clean hotel with bags of character"
although the rooms were basic, they were exceptionally clean and charming. The character of the convent has been retained and is very quiet, except for the occasional plane flying over and the 7.30a.m alarm call from the church bells next door. We thought the service was excellent and would definately recommend this hotel. The receptionist was very helpful, and gave us info on the trains, and also recommended a local restaurant, which was excellent.
