"About the best in the Grand Place area"
Brussels is a big market for hoteliers and locations near the Grand Place are always popular for business and leisure travel; it's not best hunting grounds for high quality and best value, but that said the Scandic is about good a hotel as I've found near the Place. It's a new building in an old facade, partially renovated a few years back although could do with some attention in places now. A friendly welcome, although the room was rather hot and the aircon didn't seem to be working. Rooms are on the small side but this is normal in this area: for more space try the European Quarter or the Avenue Louise area. It's a bit of a rabbit warren inside, with rooms laid out around an atrium but this has the advantage of keeping the noise down. A reasonable choice for breakfast, but not as good as you might expect from a Scandic in its home country. All in all, in Belgium's busiest market for hotels, the Scandic is about as good as you're going to get!

"Location, location"
This hotel is well located for central Brussels, but don't be misled by the name - it's not on the Grand Place - it's about five minutes walk away!
The rooms are of reasonable size and, especially given its location, extremely reasonably priced. Everything was clean, though we noted towels had not been changed on a Sunday. The breakfasts were adequate, but the eating area was rather small and crowded for the number of people the hotel caters for. There is a definite Scandinavian feel about the decor and the whole hotel, though housed in a much older building. Reception was very polite, friendly and efficient. Apparently there are saunas on the fifth floor, and we did wonder if that contributed to the slightly warm and steamy atmosphere we experienced - but admittedly the weather was unseasonably warm!

"Perfect for business travellers"
The scandic is perfect for business travellers with an excellent location.
The rooms may be slightly dark, but you don't go away to sit in a hotel room all day.
Everything's clean, the staff are very efficient and friendly, the food is great.
There is occasionally a strange smell of eggs throughout the hotel - possibly bad drains?
