"Improved standards now match the setting."
Having stayed in the Slieve Donard regularly over the last five or so years I must say that I have no qualms about recommending this hotel. On my most recent visit, my first time at a wedding there, I found the staff friendly, warm and efficient without any of the officiousness found at other similar sized hotels. With a mix of Irish charm and wit on reception, and the continental waiting staff who really knew their stuff in the restaurant, it was professional all the way.
The level of quality and service have improved markedly over the last couple of years, and many of the earlier reviews I read here are simply outdated.
If you want to stay somewhere with all the services that a large hotel can offer, while maintaining all the personality and personability of a small one, this is the place for you.

"Superb!!"
I stayed at the Slieve Donard last weekend and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I attended a wedding there about 2 years ago, and whilst the service was very friendly and bedrooms very clean I felt it lacked something. On this ocassion it's like a new hotel and can only agree with the last number of comments. The standard of food was excellent, we dined at the Grand Buffet they serve on a Saturday night and the choice was amazing, and what's more the service has even improved on our last stay! To top it all, the location is possibly the most picturesque I have ever stayed in, so congrats to the management, they've obviously been working hard.

"excellent spring break"
I have just returned from spending the weekend 8/9 April 05 in the Slieve Donard it was a super break the ambience was perfect huge homely fires in all the reception areas library and dining rooms. We had a newly refurbished room and the views were spectacular. I will certainly return to this hotel as I found the staff extremely helpful and welcoming and the food especially the gala buffet on the Saturday was excellent.
