"luxurious and pretty"
The lobby is open with a apacious sitting/reading area and a large Bar /cafe. We enjoyed light meals and drinks in the bar.which is continuous with the cafe. Breakfast is served in the formal restaurant and is sumptuous. The tourist office is a few feet from the front door. Chateau is an easy walk. RER station is just across the street. We were very glad that we chose the Sofitel.

"Exellent hotel and service"
Having read the reviews on tripadvisor, I booked one night stay at the sofitel Versailles and was not disappointed. I was driving in from Amboise, Loire Valley and was so glad I did not stay in central Paris. Upon arriving at the hotel, the lady at the reception was friendly, had a smile on her face (very rare in Paris) and upgraded us to an executive room. The bed in the room was heavenly and super king size.
You can always count on sofitel for its high standards, in terms of service, its by far better than the intercontinental group.
My dislikes: the wallpaper in the room looks a bit old and the buffet breakfast is very mediocre, its basically the same kind of stuff you would eat in a Novotel hotel.
I will definitely stay here again.

"Definitely... very nice"
If you’re going to Versailles to see the Chateau, the location of this Sofitel is ideal: a couple of hundred meters away from the gates. There is also a railway station going straight into Paris within 200 meters. The city tourist office is right next door. First impression is good, going through an old archway (the hotel is built on part of the Chateau stables). The hotel itself is modern and good looking, a pleasant airy feeling. Luxurious but discreetly so. If you come by car, it can be difficult to find the right turning (yes, we missed it!)
All the staff were polite, helpful and well informed. We had two niggles with the hotel; the first one is here: the website announces valet parking, but as we pulled up in front, there was no-one. The parking entrance, fortunately, is easy to find and there is a direct lift to the hotel reception. (We did see the valet parking in effect later on). Parking is not free (15 euros/day).
Check in was efficient and we found ourselves upgraded… That’s always a pleasant surprise.
The room was large, airy, nicely decorated had a large king-size bed (Sofitels generally have very comfortable beds. This was a very large, very comfortable bed… Perfect for our purposes). Being a corner room, we had views onto the hotel’s courtyard and onto the Avenue de Paris. The windows do open but the road is noisy, so it’s not useful to open them. A nice plus, being on a non-smoking floor.
Here is the second niggle: the hotel in general was too hot. The room A/C worked fine, but we never quite managed to get the right combination of room temperature, as the duvets on the bed are quite warming.
In-room facilities: kettle, tea & coffee; bathrobes & slippers; internet access via the TV and wifi access. The choice of TV channels was disappointing and the menu system to get to the required channel is endlessly frustrating.
Bathroom was nice, quite large and included a full range of toiletries.
The bar was pleasant and we had a quick meal there, nicely prepared. We didn’t try the restaurant. Breakfast was good with a lot of choice, bread/croissants/pastries, yogurt/fruit salad, cold meats/cheese, hot dishes. Free newspaper.
We checked out the fitness centre on the 4th floor; this has a sauna, a hamam, and a full range of exercise machines. The place smelled stale or a bit off, though it was spotlessly clean, but we didn’t fancy it.
Overall, we would absolutely recommend this hotel; the facilities, the location and the way we were treated were all excellent.
