Urnes stavkyrkje probably dates back to the beginning of the 12th century, which makes it the oldest stave church in Norway. The stave churches in Kaupanger and Borgund were built in the later half of the 12th century, and especially Borgund is a very popular sight, long reckoned to represent the generic building style of the stave churches.
