"Why not stay in a serviced apartment?"
Somerset Lake Point Serviced apartments in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok.
Why stay in an impersonal hotel when you can stay here?
Having visited Bangkok on maybe 15-20 occassions in the last 5 years, Somerset lake Point is now my place of preference.
I've stayed at Emporium Suites, The Sofitel, The Imperial Queen's Park and Pathamwan Princess too and they are all worthy establishments, but why pay almost twice the price when you can have an apartment with a fully equipped kitchen, CD/VCD player, a decent, free breakfast, an indoor and outdoor pool and a management that listens to its customers?
There are two tower blocks of residences here. Many expats live here, but there are also many tourists and short stay customers.
Tower A has studios and 1/2 and 3 bedroomed suites available.
Tower B has studios and 1/2 bedroomed suites and they are more upmarket.
I choose to stay in Tower B; even the studios here are well apointed and comfortable.
The restaurant/bar serves the breakfast and stays open late.
There are other restaurants on site too including the best Thai restaurant I've ever eaten at (Whyndam Thai) this is a special occassion restaurant and it aint cheap, but gee is it good!
There is a mini-mart on site too for those drinks etc.
A tuk-tuk will take you to the nearest station at Emporium Mall and you can also get a taxi easily enough. Don't even consider walking; too far and quite congested with traffic.
Location is a little out of the way (Sukhumvit 16) which is actually a ten minute taxi from Phrom Phong station. Some people I know think this is too inconvenient, but for me, the price and the great space plus the great pools more than makes up for any inconvenience of location.
Rooms have cable TV and a good selection of channels is available. The manager, Mr Anan, even arranged to have the Australia Channel (ABC) connected after I asked about this.
There are swankier, more desirous locations in Bangkok to be sure and there are bigger rooms and better breakfasts too.
Somerset Lake Point offers peace and quiet, unfussed service and value for money.
I never stay anywhere else now.

"Wonderful Experience"
My family & I stayed at Somerset Lake Point, Bangkok from 20 Dec - 23 Dec 2006. It is situated in Sukhumvit Soi 16, which is quite a high-end residential area and peaceful. For your info, the hotel has Tower A & Tower B.
We stayed in a spacious studio room in Tower B; fully-furnished with kitchen cabinet including the cooking hood & hob, washing machine cum dryer, a refrigerator, an oven, a kettle, a tv and mini hi-fi with cd/vcd player, a hairdryer, an iron & iron board, cutleries, bowls, plates, glasses, cups & a teapot. It was really felt like home!
There are 2 restaurants at the hotel namely Cool Chili (Asian cuisine) & Wyndham Thai (Thai food). The nearest BTS station is Asok and the nearest MRT station is Sukhumvit. The hotel provides complimentary tuk-tuk services to any nearby places.
Tower B has an indoor swimming pool, whereby Tower A has an outdoor one. The facilities in the hotel also include a gymnasium, a business centre & internet services, a tour desk and a mini-mart (located in Tower A). Thai massages are also available but do call for appointment.
Those at the front office can speak quite good English and they're willing to help you in any way possible.
My family agreed that this hotel is the best one we have been so far. Should we visit Bangkok in the future, we will definitely stay at Somerset Lake Point again.
