Hotel Information
In touch with history
St.Olav hotel that has opened its doors quite recently, was named after the Norwegian King St Olaf Haroldson. The hotel is located in a building that dates back to the 15th century and is interwoven with ancient legends.
Wooden staircases, natural stone, patterned textiles, hot forged details and the fragments carefully preserved in the process of the restoration create a unique atmosphere of a medieval fairy tale.
The location of the hotel is also unique – it is within a three-minute walk from Town Hall Square, in the widest and quietest street of Old Town.
Our hotel has four floors and 102 rooms furnished and equipped to cater for everything you may need for a comfortable rest. The pseudo-Gothic decor used in the interior design create an interesting and very cosy atmosphere; the materials used in the rooms' finish are natural and ecologically clean.
In the hotel there are
l two restaurants (old Russian and European cuisine),
l two conference halls and
l an impressive inside courtyard with a summer patio and linden trees.
Our hotel seems to have been built especially for the people who wish to sense the spirit of good old Tallinn.
Regardless of the neighbourhood like this, the area is reasonably quiet and peaceful.
The block is surrounded by a defence wall that used to protect Archangel Michael's Convent built in the 13th century. The memory of those distant times is retained in the names of the defence towers such as Sister's Tower and Behind-the-Sisters Tower. Through a defence passage, it is possible to climb up the towers.
On the site of the former church, you can now admire the Cathedral of Transfiguration - where, by the way, the subject of Peter the Great and an ancestor of the great Russian poet Pushkin, Àbraham Hannibal was wedded.
The name of the street St.Olav's Hotel is located in is Lai, which means "wide". In Lai Street you can also find the Museum of Applied Art, the Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Health.
Right next door, there is an exclusive sweet shop of the well-known confectionary factory Kalev – you can buy some marzipan as a souvenir from here.
