"Great for the Price"
This hotel is convenienly located; about 3 blocks from the train station on your right when you walk out of the station. Receptionists and the breakfast lady are friendly and spoke English well. Our room is small; but considering the price we paid (43 Euros per night), I'd say it's still a good deal. It's easy to get around by the electrical train, but you must buy the tickets before getting on the train. Must join the whole day vineyard tour from the tourist office at the station or in the city. The tour was great and the lunch included was exceptionally wonderful! We had a wonderful time within the two days we were in Bordeaux.

"Good Value for the Price"
There are many conflicting reports about this hotel, depending upon which website you consult. For example, some sites list room amenities as including hair dryers, clock alarms, etc. Let me clear up these conflicting reports based on my stay there with my wife in May, 2005. As is common in France, the rooms are very small and amenities include a phone, cable t.v. with remote control, and a private bathroom consisting of a toilet, sink, and tiny shower. Soap and shampoo are provided and replaced daily when the room is made up. Alarm clocks and hair dryers are not provided, but some hair dryers are available if you ask at the front desk. When we were at the hotel, there were 2 hair dryers available for 62 rooms. You do the math. We were fortunate to get one. Automatic wake-up calls can be programmed into the telephone. The hotel is located only a couple of hundred meters from the Gare St. Jean train station. We were able to travel from the airport to this train station by taking the "Jet Bus". It cost 6.5 euros per person, one-way. However, due to the early hour of our return flight on a Saturday, we had to take a taxi to the airport. This cost 53 euros. The first Jet Bus on weekends and holidays doesn't leave Gare St. Jean until 7:30 a.m. Much of the staff has a very limited knowledge of English, except the man who works days from Monday to Friday. His English is excellent. The employees are very friendly and accomodating, despite their lack of English skills and we found that they couldn't do enough for us. This included phoning Air France to check on how soon our luggage would finally arrive from Paris, to verifying the departure time of our return flight and arranging for a taxi to pick us up at a certain time for transportation to the airport. The half-day trips by bus to the various wineries around Bordeaux are worth every penny of the 27 euros charged per person. Not to be missed is the day-long session which includes wine school in the morning, followed by lunch at a Bordeaux restaurant and then the usual bus trip to certain wineries in the afternoon. This cost 65 euros per person and we'd take the course again if we ever return to Bordeaux. If you decide to take only one half-day trip, make it the one to St. Emillion. This trip involves a visit to only one winery, instead of the usual two, but includes a stop-over in the town, itself. You will have about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to spend exploring this incredibly fascinating medieval town. Make sure you wear running shoes or hiking boots to explore the town since it's very hilly. To get around Bordeaux, you should use the tram. There are three lines to take you to different areas of the city. The cost when we were there was 1.30 euros per one-way trip and 4.5 euros for 5 trips. Other options include day and weekly passes. Tickets must be bought before boarding and in the case of multiple-trip tickets, one trip has to be "cancelled" by running the ticket through a machine once you have boarded. Obviously, the tickets work by the honour system. Hopefully, this narrative will be of some help to people planning to visit Bordeaux.
