"Absolutely fabulous food"
We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend and enjoyed every minute. On arrival we were escorted to our room to find on opening the door that it reeked of cigarette smoke (we are non smokers). The receptionist was keen to get the housekeeping staff in to "deodorise" the room but in our experience that is ineffective. We were told that there were no other rooms and it was only when we refused point blank to stay in the room that another room was found. That room was lovely and fresh and had a nice big bed so we were happy. We had a walk around the extensive grounds and admired the amazing and original collection of trees and plants from the Himalayas. There is a small marina and a nice bench to admire the beautiful loch and it's all very tranquil. The dining room and all the public rooms are very tastefully docarated and the view from the dining room is pretty stunning. The only thing to match the view and surroundings is the food - we found this to be quite outstanding - the scallops and halibut especially were fab. The staff in the restaurant were very efficient - they don't take too many bookings at the same time so they are pretty attentive. The scenery is stunning and there are loads of places nearby to visit - we loved Crinnan (great tea rooms and interesting canal locks system) and Machrahanish (fabulous beach), Mull of Kintyre etc. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will definitley return. However, it would be nice if they reserved a few rooms for non-smoking guests. (They do request that guests refrain from smoking in the rooms but since they provide an ashtray in the room ...........)
