The Strand Palace.
We spent 2 nights at the Strand.Booking in was easy, staff polite and our room was clean and very comfortable if a little small but then again there was only two of us. .Sadly no air conditioning but the electric fan was adequate.Breakfast was very good with service prompt.Bar prices are as you'd expect and do not encourage a night cap after a show.Location is excellent and definately an hotel we'd revisit. |

location,location,location
On my arrival to the hotel, I was welcomed by nice staff. They had my check in quickly. I went up to my room. The bedroom was adequate. I found bathroom tiny and room hot. These were not so big problems I was not in the room the whole day because I was busy with wonderful attractions of London:-) It is very nice to reach everywhere easily from the hotel. Location is so important! London was perfect and hotel, too. It is recommended! |

"Vastly improved"
It is a very long time since I stayed at this hotel - was booked in as part of a conference package and was dreading it. Delighted to say that the experience was so much better than my low expectations. Room, although small was refurbed, good beds, good shower and immaculately clean. Breakfast was excellent.
Location is very central, so ask for a room away from the traffic. Ours was quiet, but those facing the Strand , I understand, were not,

"Impressed!!"
Finding the Hotel was the hardest as we didnt have any directions from convent garden.
When we arrived we were really impressed, the room was big filled with essentials, tv internet, fans etc. The breakfast was excellent and filling.
The staff were helpful with questions etc.Just a 2 minute walk to everything. The only drawback was the view, we were facing a wall, but we were only in the room to sleep!!
Would be going back.

"Loved the Strand"
Just got back yesterday. Loved the Strand. Great location and nice room. I was expecting something alot different based on the reviews here, but was pleasantly surprised. Like everyone has said the location of this hotel could not of been better. Within walking distance of alot of the major sites. We had a double room. It had 2 beds with a desk and a couple of chairs. A TV and a nice size full bathroom. Everything was clean and our room was quiet probably because our room did not face the street. We were on the 6th floor. We also had the full breakfast included in our room price and that was really good also. The only thing was, that in the summer, I would not of been able to stand the heat in the room. It was warm in our room and it was cold and rainy out. So that would be the only drawback. There is no air conditioning.

"NYE 2007"
Stayed for a week during 2007 New Years. First time to London. Hotel is in excellent location for those who want to see the sights. Its centrally located to the Underground and busses. Walking distance to Covent Garden Market, which I found surprisingly interesting. Shops galore. Street performers. I discovered Pret-A-Manger which seemed to be the place to eat when you are on a budget. They were located everywhere and near the hotel. I can't stress the convenience of the Underground station nearby. I purchased all day passes and traveled all over london.
The hotel was large in size and customer service was on par. Speedy check in. For a cheaper price I requested a room with no view and no silly breakfast which was a rip-off compared what you could get steps away from the hotel. The room was small. But not cramped. The bed was comfy and the pillows excellent. My heater did not work upon arrival. I called the front desk and within an hour I had hotel maintenance working on it. The bathroom was fine. Might be a bit claustrophobic for someone who is tall. Overall it was clean. I would recommend this hotel if you have never been to London and want to do the sightseeing thing.

"A new budget favourite"
My and my wife have just returned from three nights at The Strand Palace, and I think we have found ourselves a new favourite. We booked our rooms through a last-minute webpage, so the price wasn't that horrifying. And we really got our moneys worth.
The Palace is located at the Strand, two minutes from the Covent Garden-marked, five minutes from Trafalgar Square, and ten from Leicester Square. Also the hotel itself is equipped with several bars/ restaurants and a small shopping arcade.
It's a old hotel, and that was evident on our room. For instance, we couldn't lock our bathroom door properly. And the sound-proofing between our room and the hall-way left much to be desired. But I must say, this was by far the cleanest room we have ever stayed in on our trips to London. Two thumbs up for the housekeeping. Our room was at the 5th floor, with a view to the back yard. Not the most thrilling view, but we could sleep with our window open without beeing kept awake by the London night-life. Our room was also equipped with a air-cooler, but we never tested it. No minibar, but vending machines on all floors selling cold drinks.
Both check in and check out went smoothly, and the concierge service was very helpful and efficient when we needed to store our luggage for some hours at the departure day.
So The Strand Palace will absolutely have the pleasure of our adoring company once moore.

"Had a great stay"
I booked a twin room for 3/5/07 for myself and my mother as we had tickets to a show that night. I made the mistake of reading the reviews of this hotel the night before we travelled and must admit I was a bit worried by them. I rang the hotel and upgraded our room to a club twin room just in case the bad reviews were true.
I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. Our room was clean and newly refurbished and the bathroom was spotless. We were only staying the one night but the room was more than adequate for our needs. The only thing I can say is that the room was on the warm side and had no view. The alternative, however, would have been a noisy room on the Strand so had no problem with this at all. The staff were pleasant and the hotel was in a brilliant location. If you're looking for a reasonable room in Central London, you could do much worse.

"great hotel, great location"
We haved just got back from a 1 night show and stay package and had a great time. Reading the reviews before we went i was a bit unsure but was very suprised. We checked in at 2:00 and the staff were friendly and helpfull also had told us we had a club room when we booked a standard double but we didnt complain about that. The room was really nice and clean. There was a plasma tv on the wall water in the room and tea/ coffee facilitys. The bathroom was slighty small but had very nice Elemis products which are loverly. For breakfast our package came with a continental package but when we got there they just said help yourself so we did to a nice full english breakfast. I would stay in this hotel again and would recommend to others.

Good hotel, great location
I stayed at the Strand Palace on two occasions, I chose the hotel for it's location near to theatreland. The first time i had quite a large and spacious room overlooking The Strand, the second time it was a much smaller one with a wonderful view of a natural shaft at tha rear of the hotel! The location of the hotel is fabulous if you are a theatre goer, a short walk to most theatres, which means no tube or cab to return to the hotel. The breakfast was well cooked and presented, the rooms were clean & tidy, anyway, who spends much time in the hotel room? A nice choice of hotel at a reasonable price. |

"Strand Palace came up trumps again!"
Last year I stayed at the Strand Palace Hotel and was very happy with the whole experience. I therefore decided to stay there again this year, when I visited London in October. Once again, I couldn't fault this hotel. Although I arrived very early (8.45am), the charming receptionist not only found me a room into which I could go immediately, but she also upgraded it to a Club room (I had booked a standard single). I had requested a street-facing room, high up, and was given one on the 8th floor - it was bright, airy and spotlessly clean, and I was not bothered by street noise at all. On this occasion I booked through Hoteldoorman.com, and the price of 71 GP per night included a continental breakfast. I shall be visiting London again next year, and will not consider staying anywhere other than the Strand Palace Hotel.

"Why The Complaints?"
I've been visiting London for 20 years, and this year was my first time at the Strand Palace. I couldn't have been happier with this hotel! The location is perfect, the staff at the front desk and the concierge desk were friendly and helpful at all times. My room was small, but immaculately clean and well - attended to. Yes, the central heating is overpowering, but you can do as I did - - turn of the radiator and open a window! This simple trick kept my room comfortable at all times. My rate did not include breakfast, but there was a Tesco just across the street, and a McDonald's adjacent to the Charing Cross tube station, so I was able to fend for myself very easily. My experience at the Strand Palace couldn't have been any nicer. I will definitely stay there again. Don't listen to the complaints about this place! If you're looking for a central location in a great neighborhood, easy access to the tube, good service and nice surroundings, choose the Strand Palace for your next London visit.

7 out of 10
I have stayed at this hotel on 3 occasions and the room size varies from small to medium. The rooms have always been clean & the breakfasts are good. The staff are friendly & polite. However I have stayed at this hotel in the summer when it has been very hot. None of my rooms had air-conditioning making them unbearable (it was cooler outside the hotel). When I am next in London, I will be staying at a different hotel because of the lack of air-conditioning. |

Strand Palace
Nice rooms-service.
Concierge, however, is either ignorant or a shill for stuffing people into The Lion King. Had no clue about local theaters. |
