"Quite possibly the best hotel experience I've had"
My wife and I stayed at the Sutton Place hotel in Vancouver, for 4 nights. We were amazed by the experience. First, people should know that is not a cheap hotel, and the service you get is first class. I've stayed at hotels in Xiamen, China where service is world renowned as some of the best if not the best (presumably, at least partly due to the labor being so cheap) and the service at the Sutton place closely matched, if not exceeded it. We heard that the owner of the Sutton place hotels was from Singapore so perhaps he had high expectations for his hotels, wherever they were. We had a ~40 inch flat panel TV with surround sound setup in our living area and another ~25 inch TV in the bedroom. The location was also very nice, there was a grocery store and bakery next to the hotel, and was within walking distance of many stores (tourist as well as department and boutique) and restaurants. Robson St and Davie St we're 2-4 blocks away and Denman St was probably a 20 minute walk. We also went to Victoria's chinese restaurant about 4 blocks away (in the basement of the Hyatt hotel) which had good, authentic chinese food. We heard that the Singaporean owner likes to come here for meals when he's in town.
The parking was somewhat expensive at $28/day but you had valet service (which I think was free unless you included the tip) at the front door. It was very nice not having to look for a parking spot, and being able to call down to the valet from your room to bring out your car. The concierge and front desk staff were *extremely* helpful, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable at all hours of the day. There was an indoor pool (which I did not use) as well as what looked like a relatively large gym area with free weights and machines, as well as a spa service. There was internet access (wireless and wired) for a $14.95/day fee as well as a business center.

"Great location"
Although expensive this hotel has excellent rooms and staff and it's location is superb.
The hotel is supposed to have a really good Jazz Brunch each Sunday, but make sure you book in advance since it's really popular.

"Fabulous First Visit to BC"
What a fabulous two nights at The Sutton Place Hotel! This was our first visit to Vancouver, BC and we fell in love with it. The Sutton Place was beautiful! From the moment we arrived until the moment we walked out the door for our departure to Victoria, the staff was excellent. The concierge was available and very helpful, at anytime. Upon his suggestion, we had dinner at Joe Fortes. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, only walking distance from the hotel. Definitely, rent bicycles to tour Stanley Park and the city. You can ride for hours. After spending two nights at The Sutton Place Hotel, my expectations of any hotel will never be the same.

"Great Hotel!"
This was our first trip to Vancouver and staying at the Sutton Place made our trip enjoyable. Everyone at the hotel was very nice and helpful. The concierge desk was extremely helpful in recommending dining options and activities. The hotel was very clean including the room. We stayed 4 nights and thouroughly enjoyed staying at this hotel. The only complaint was the business center. You have to pay to use the internet which is $6.00 for 20 minutes & $20.00 for an hour. But there was a problem with the internet connection one night and we were given a free hour card to use.
The location is really good right in the heart of Vancouver & within walking distance to restaurants and shopping.
Room service and the in house restaurant were pricey thus we elected to venture out and eat elsewhere. Parking is $24.00/day which includes valet parking. You can exchange your money at the front desk which was convenient.
We would highly recommend this hotel again.

"Just fine if you aren't a luxury snob."
I found a great reduced rate for this hotel online and booked my husband and I for a long weekend (we live in Seattle). I then read some of the negative reviews on TripAdvisor and got a little nervous about our stay. Let me start by saying that I have stayed in every kind of lodging, from true high-end luxury resorts to noisy youth hostels and small budget hotels. I do not regularly stay in the finest hotels because I would rather spend the extra money on something else. I tend to stay in comfortable, clean and somewhat well-appointed properties that fall somewhere in the mid-range price-wise. You won't find me at a Best Western or Comfort Inn unless there are literally no other options, but I also make a point of spending $200 or less on the best place I can find. I am VERY critical when it comes to: cleanliness, comfort and customer service. I also like a room with style- It must feel like an indulgence even if it isn't 5 star. All of that said, here is what I think of the Sutton Place: The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. We were treated like valued guests. Our room was fine- clean, attractive, comfortable. This was an above average experience. But- If I were a wealthy person accustomed to staying in the finest hotels, I porobably would have been miffed at this property's 5 star rating. But I am a normal, reasonable person with high but not ridiculous standards. Yes, the Sutton should probably go ahead and buy new beds. Yes, the room was not huge. Yes, there was a tiny bit of chipped paint at the bottom of the bathroom door and the sheets were not high thread count egyptian cotton. But this is an older building, after all. It was clean and we slept like babies. If you want a true luxury experience, cough up the cash to stay at the Four Seasons. If you can find a reduced rate online for the Sutton Place, take it. The staff are wonderful, the hotel is charming and centrally located and the rooms are perfectly fine.

"Well posh!"
My first time in a 5 star hotel, and it was...ok. Got a good deal, staying 4 nights on honeymoon in October.
On first impressions we were very excited with all the little extras in the room, and the beautiful bedding and decor.
Our room was a little on the small side by canadian standards, but perfectly adequate for the two of us. The view is amazing, i requested and got a room near the top, and the floor to ceiling window soon got covered in fingerprints as we clambered to point out all the landmarks.
The location is fantastic, right in the center and only a few minutes walk to most attractions.
The only disapointment was our room being next to the lifts. At first we put the frequent rumbling noise down to the wind outside, what with being so high up, but it soon became apparent that it was the lifts. It's not a particularly loud noise, and my wife probably wouldn't have noticed if i didn't keep going on about it, but i found it quite annoying. However, being typical Brits abroad, we didn't make a fuss, but would not want the same room again.
Overall an excellent hotel, and we got a great deal considering the location and quality of the hotel (deservingly 5 star, and probably half the price of the Fairmont), but avoid rooms directly next to the lifts.

great place to stay
First time in Vancouver, this hotel was a lovely place to stay, Quiet even though it was downtown, walking distance to many nice stores and resturants, our only complaint would be the bed was pretty hard. But overall the room was lovely, we were on the 19th floor and had a nice view of the city. THe Concierge desk was extremely helpful. Didn’t use the pool, but heard from others that it was great. Nice fitness room. In House resturant is spendy, but there is a grocery store just next store and a couple of inexpensive places to eat very close. We would definitely recommend this hotel. |

Loved the Sutton Place
Reserved this room through Hotwire. The service was fantastic. The room was beautiful. The location is close to restaurants & shopping. Walking distance to Stanley Park & the Art Gallery. The only negative thing I could say about my experience here is the person who checked us in made a comment about how we booked through hotwire. Would definitely stay there again.

Great location - people watching fun
Sutton Place was a wonderful hotel to stay at. The location is perfect. You are across the street from a movie theatre (that my husband were able to go to before dinner one evening). You are also located close to great restaurants and shopping. We walked to everything and it took no more than 5 minutes to get to a breakfast place and to dinner. Our room was beautiful. We had a two room suite. The flat sceren TVs were a nice touch. The beds are extremely comfortable, and you get a great view of the city from many of the rooms. The elevator wasn't always fast, but it was a very very busy time when we were there.Overall the hotel is great! |
