In the 18th Century, the Jacobites put Thainstone to torch, however James Wilson of Thainstone escaped the fire and fled to America, where he later put his name to the American Declaration of Independence.

Under new ownership in the 19th Century, the present mansion was redesigned by renowned architect Archibald Simpson, who was responsible for shaping much of the present day city of Aberdeen.

"A Warm Welcome back"
Having just returned from a extended trip after New Year, I now feel compelled to write a few words of thanks and appreciation for the outstanding efforts of Thainstone House during the festive period 2004. A similar visit 2003, whilst enjoyable, clearly demonstrated a business in the process of change. The return visit in 2004 could not have been more welcoming or warming. Our 3 day stay was superb; was it the "wee" dram of whisky in the Drawing Room on Christmas Eve followed by the excellent dinner, or the story teller, telling the story of A Christmas Carole by the open fire with yet more Whisky? Could it have been the the beautiful bright, crisp clear Christmas morning with the snow lightly falling on the extensive gardens and grounds or the quite magnificent Christmas Day Lunch and evening buffet (the comedian and magician were a fantastic addition? Was it the Boxing Day Lunch or Clay pigeon Shooting and super leisure facilities in general? Yes it was all of these as well as the very comfortable room provided for stay and the happy team who looked after us so well. Our thanks to Sue who looked after us at Breakfast, Val who spoiled us during Dinner and the General Manager Callum, (his 2nd Christmas at the Hotel) who provided such a welcoming atmosphere. See you again this Year.
