"Excellent"
I stay at the Fairmont Palliser often, and it is one of my favorite hotels. I do agree that some of the rooms are dated (I stayed in the Royal Suite and even it was dated) but having stayed there numerous times, and staying in numerous rooms, I found that rooms are updated gradually. I also found that the Private lounge (Eighth floor guests) was very nice. Every evening I received cocktails and drinks. I also received a delicious breakfast, all of which amenities where complimentary. You do pay a higher price to stay on the eight floor, but I found a higher standard of service. The eighth floor is the concierge floor, and they were very helpful when showing me my room. They spent about 20 minutes telling me about the celebrities who stayed in the room, and the history of the hotel (I was very excited to discover that The Queen, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Elton John and other celebrities had stayed in the same hotel suite as me). Overall my stays at The Fairmont Palliser have been pleasant, and I would recommend the hotel to people who are willing to pay more for a room.

"A Slice of quality"
We seemed to stay in a very different hotel for two nights in early July than many of the posted reports suggest. We arrived by hire car, found parking and access to the hotel easy and were greeted by friendly helpful staff. Our room was excellent, spacious bright and clean, with the usual ensuite spotless. It was the week prior to the Stampeed and already the atmosphere was building in the town.

"Terrific"
Old and stately hotels are better than new modern boxes in my opinion, the trade off being the bathrooms in the former tend to be on the dated side, but who cares! We stayed here one night as our flight arrived in Calgary in the late afternoon and I didn't feel like driving 2 hours and splurging that much money at our next stop, Chateau Lake Louise, for only a few hours room time. In short, we both enjoyed the Palliser (wife: "you've done good!") and the Oak Room provided a nice relaxed (and reasonably priced) dinner alternative.

"It's all taken care of."
My husband and I were married in December and chose the The Fairmont Palliser for our small ceremony. We only had to deal with one person-- the very capable catering manager-- who arranged the food, space, sleeping room, and all the other details on very short notice. The reception went wonderfully-- we didn't have to worry about a single detail. The dinner was expertly served and the food was top rate. The desert looked like a piece of art. Our sleeping room-- the royal suite-- was the most luxurious I've ever stayed in, with all the positives you've read in the other reviews and none of the negatives. Moments after our arrival in the room a bottle of champagne, flutes, truffles, and a small gift were elegantly presented at the door. There was no hesitation to accomodate us when we called to ask for a later checkout time. Attendents were always on hand to help with luggage (and even to carry a message down to the ceremony room prior to the wedding to say we'd be a few munites late!) By the time we went to breakfast the following morning in the concierge lounge we were feeling like royalty. In my letter of thanks to the catering manager I requested a copy of the printed menu for memorial purposes, fully realizing that he was likely too busy to concern himself with having another printed for us. Last week two menus arrived in our mailbox. I would highly recommend the The Fairmont Palliser for any gathering, weddings included. The accomodations are luxurious and the staff is capable and professional, and will ensure a lovely experience.

"Great 4-star hotel"
Stayed here on business recently in a King-bedded non-smoking room on a regular regular (not concierge) floor. The room was large & spacious, but I was lucky because I think every room is different. It was standard 4-star fare plus a touch of elegance. The hotel common areas are also very elegant and classy, compared to the new boring Sheratons Hyatts Hiltons etc. My room was in the back over the train tracks, which worried me because I dont like noise when I sleep. However, it was quiet (up 9 or 10 floors anyway where I was). Though it's a large hotel, this hotel has character & charm. The location is not bad, but it's across the tracks unfortunately from most of the business section. Nevertheless, when I return to Calgary for business next month, I will stay here again. Good but pricey restaurants.

"loved the Fairmont Palliser"
We were upgraded to a very luxurious and stylishly traditional room on the 8th floor, the "gold" floor. Many many extras provided, both in the bathroom and in the bedroom along with a spacious sitting and desk area. The room featured Canadian art, with even a signed, color woodcut by well known Canadian artist Walter Phillips, in the bathroom no less! The complimentary breakfast and hors d'oevre from 5-7 pm were excellent in taste and presentation. The staff who worked this floor were exceptional in their customer service orientation. The hotel is well located, near attractions and terrific restaurants, try Murrietta's, Teatro, Catch and Avenue Diner.

"Amazing"
We stayed at the Palliser in August for two nights on the "Gold Floor". We had suite 801 which had a large sitting area, comfy king sized bed and large bathroom. It also had two closets, three telephones and a nice sized television. The Gold level is fantastic as you get a breakfast daily and evening appetizers. The service is efficent, personal and friendly. The rooms are nicely decorated and very clean and anything that you may need is available by simply calling the front desk. I would highly reccomend this beautiful hotel right in the middle of most of the sights and shopping Calgary has to offer.

"The best in town, bar none."
Fairmont is renovating the Palliser (beautifully I might add). Make sure when you check in that you ask for a room on one of the renovated floors. Because of it's shape, height and location there aren't many great views to be seen, but the beauty of this hotel is in it's great history, elegantly done rooms and it's grand lobby, bar and restaurant. It's one of the few places in this young, shiny town that evokes any sense of history. We were actually staying at the Hyatt Regency across the street, when we happened to pass by the Palliser. One look at the lobby and we were sold, the super friendly front desk staff took us on a tour of several different rooms and we immediately checked out of the Hyatt and into the Palliser. We stayed on the Gold floor (well worth the small extra price), had a very large suite with an AMAZING complimentary breakfast every morning and honor bar at night. If you're going to stay in Calgary and you want something a bit special this is definitely it.

"Excellent Location"
This hotel is in a fantastic location and offered excellent service. We did not use the restaurants as they were a little pricey and didn't appear to be well used. Our room was okay, nothing special, however very comfortable and well equipped. Overall, a pleasant stay and I would probably return here if I was to visit Calgary again.

"Great start to the vacation"
My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel with our two children at the beginning of our stay in Canada. This is an excellent hotel. We were upgraded to a junior suite when we arrived. The breakfast buffet was excellent in terms of both quality and value. The pool was great for the kids and all the staff in the hotel were very friendly. I would quite happily stay here again.
