Hotel Information
Fantastic decor inside and a a roof garden outside....

If anyone is at all familiar with New York city they have certainly heard of Grammercy Park and the hotel of the same name. Also this neighborhood’s name, this unique area is home to New York’s only private park, where it’s neighbors, in order to enter, need a key to the gate. The prestigious hotel located on the boundries of the park, recently went through a massive renovation project at the hand of the famous hotelier Ian Shrager, and it evolved from timely, old-world elegance into fantastic all-world pazzaz.

This hotel was long a popular residence hotel since its inception in 1924.It has its own history of people who called this hotel their home, such as Mary McCarthy and Johnathan Kennedy. Humphrey Bogart was married there.
Now the hotel has been escalated from it’s faded glory to a over-the-top luxury boutique hotel. Numerous artists and artisans had been brought in during the restoration process and have added their touch to give The Gramercy Park a highly distinctive and edgy vibe, making this hotel a visual feast for the eyes. With it’s dramatic color scheme and highly ecclectic hand-made furnishings it is sure to be full-tilt New York under one roof.
Wakiya located downstairs, is one of the city’s ‘hot’ and ‘in’ restaurants and with two bars and a rooftop lounge /eaterie for-guests-only that provide stunning views amid dazzling decor, which some guests may find they do not want to leave the hotel during their stay.
With a desirable location next to Union Square, any guest looking for that New York experience can be guarrenteed to walk out of the lobby and have it.

LOCATION

The Gramercy Park Neighborhood has always been known as a special area of Manhattan. Nestled in a quiet pocket of the city, directly next to busy Union Square at the start of Lexington Avenue. This location is a prime spot to catch all subway lines as they run through and around the square.
This area is in-between the downtown district proper and the fashion district towards mid-town. The areas of downtown, the artsy lower East Side, Nolita, Soho, Tribeca, all can be reached by about a fifteen minute walk.
Being in New York, everyone from visitor to inhabitor can be assured of a multitude of restaurants, bars and clubs to choose from in every section of town, and Gramercy Park is no exception.

PROPERTY AMENITIES

Restaurant and Bars;

The Rose Bar and Jade Bar
These bars, straight out of ‘haute Bohemia’, carry the same combination of extraordinary and near mundane ecclectic items all in a colorful opulent environment.
These famous watering holes denote a candlelit atmosphere and a layout is more of an artists living space. As the nights progress here the place turns into more of a club scene than a hotel bar.
Reservations are recomended for both the Jade and the Rose as they are popular and known to host a few celebrities on occasion.
Drinks focus on cocktails and both bars stay open until 4.00 a.m.

Private Roof Club and Garden
This remarkable space, sixteen floors above the street with a retractable roof brings the outside in and mixes the bustle of an old-world coffeehouse with that of a private drawing room. There are a countless number of spaces that flow and open onto each other all with the same modern bohemian-style fantasticness of decor. Only open to it’s guests and select private members.

Wakiya Gramercy Park Restaurant;
The opening of this venture with the hotel is one more star in the pocket of this hotel. The chef Yuji Wakiya blends the wonderful varieties of chinese cuisine in a Japanese perspective, which with these combined efforts produces very healthy eating. "fashionably decorated"
Gramercy Park Hotel's room was fashionably decorated, but a little small. We had a room with two double beds and I guess the use of space was clever. The airconditioning was centrally controlled so we could not change the temperature on our own. Staff were friendly and helpful if you asked them.

"room quality was very high"
Gramercy Park Hotel's staff were very helpful and always on hand. The room quality was very high - the recent refurbishment has really focussed on top end materials and furnishings and for a hotel in central New York, the room was of a good size. The roof garden was very nice, as were the bars, but some of the hotel claims are overdone. Cocktails are expensive by the time you add on service and tax.

"Treated Like a King"
I was very excited about a trip to Gramercy Park Hotel, after the articles I read about it, the pictures I saw, and the claim that Ian Schraeger's new focus was "service." My daughter and I recently checked it out. I was duly impressed. The staff seems to be gleaned from a who's who of most beautiful manhattanites under 30, but without the attitude you might expect accompaning such a description. They were friendly, genuine, thoughtful, and supremely attentive. The lobby, bars and rooms are breathtaking. Truly magical. I don't know what the other reviewer was saying about the reservation process for the bars, it was easier than flipping a light switch (which by the way are not out of date--they have dimmers for goodness sake) and it was definitely explained to us at check-in. We just called the concierge, no problem. Gramercy Park is relaxing. Both my daughter and I had a great time and felt very well taken care of. We will definitely be making a return trip, and give Gramercy Park Hotel our heartiest endorsement!
