"Wedding"
My Daughter held her wedding reception at this Hotel and I cannot praise them highly enough. Right from the start of booking the staff were both friendly and helpful. On the big day itself the room for the reception looked lovely, the food for the sit down meal was excellent and so was the service, the buffet in the evening was just as good. We had asked the hotel to provide a D.J. for the evening disco who was very professional and had most people on the dance floor at some time or another with a mixture of music to suit all age groups.

"What A Difference A year Makes!"
I stayed at the Great Barr Hotel last year for a weekend break and had an avearge stay but wasnt overly impressed.
I needed to stay in Birmingham for a meeting in the city centre but couldnt face the hectic traffic every morning, so with that In mind I decided to try the Great Barr Hotel once more. Its only a short drive into the city and there is no charge for car parking so I was prepared to 'risk' a second stay.
I booked online and was given a reasonable rate even though it was more expensive than the last time I stayed!
I arrived a the Hotel and was instantly shocked. The drive down the Hotel driveway was a very different experience to my last one. The front of the Hotel had been totally revamped and extended into a trendy modern exterior. So far so good.
The Lobby, Reception and Lounge areas also had been totally refurbished from the dated look af my last stay and was sleek, modern and inviting. I was welcomed by polite and friendly Receptionists who were quick and efficient.
My bedroom had not been touched since my last visit but I was upgraded as they had noticedthat I had stayed before and the room was clean. I did notice playstations had been added to the room but I didnt use it.
As I was alone I didnt venture out although there are a few pubs around the Hotel. I chose to eat and drink in the bar for the evening and found the bar staff very helpful and friendly. the whole atmosphere was that of your local pub. Nothing was too much trouble.
I know that the Hotel is privately owned from talking to the reception staff and can honestly say that my experience this year has left me feeling that I have experienced a well run, friendly Hotel where nothing has been too much trouble at all. I really felt the difference in staying in a well run independant Hotel and a large chain where you can sometimes feel like a statistic in a bigger picture.
Overall, I will certanly return to the Hotel, in fact I have re booked for the summer with my wife and children to visit the cadburys Chocolate Factory which I found advertised on the Hotels web page.
A must for a trip to Birmingham!

"Wonderful, friendly place to stay"
My partner and I normally stay in the city centre of Birmingham but on this occasion, we decided to stay on the outskirts.
The Great Barr Hotel is a fantastic venue. Although the bedrooms are extremily dated with a great need of refurbishment we felt the staff and public areas made up for it (who wants to stay in their room apart from sleep anyway).
The staff are a credit to the hotel and seem to work very efficient especially as they were also servicing 2 functions.
I suggest you try The Great Barr Hotel for yourself, just to experience profession care.

"A Home From Home"
I have stayed at the Great Barr Hotel twice before and have previously enjoyed my stay there.
I had previously stayed there for business reasons and this time decided to take my wife to the Hotel for a shopping weekend at the Bullring Shopping Centre.
I have already praised the Hotel on this site before but just wanted to write a quick comment on my stay this time. I travel around the UK on business throughout the year and have found myself a base of Hotels where I always return to. Places I know that I will be comfortable. I try to write a review on all my experiences which can be both good and bad as I myself always look at this site before travelling.
I had booked a two night weekend break at the Great Barr Hotel, and the reservationist asked me if I had stayed before when I made the booking. I gave him my details and they found my address details etc, and said that we would receive a complimentary upgrade to a superior room as I had stayed with them previously.
When I arrived at the Hotel I was given one of the refurbished rooms. On my approach to the room I was a bit worried as the corridor was stripped down to the plaster and was clearly half way through the refurbishment process but on entering the room I could see that the room had been recently decorated and we hd been upgraded to one of the larger double rooms.
My stay was comfortable and pleasant as I had experienced previously and the staff at Breakfast and Reception recognised me and welcomed me back.
The Restaurant had also been decorated since my last visit and looked very modern and welcoming.
I had a very easy, care free, smooth visit to the Great Barr Hotel and would recomend it to anyone. I shall certainly visit again.
I will say though that if you are a first time visitor that you should go for one of the double rooms as the singles are very much singles and can feel a little cramped if you are there for more than one night. My room however was very comfortable.
I have a business trip planned for the spring in Birmingham and will certainly be staying at the Great Barr Hotel again - If they will have me!!
