"Already thinking of a return stay!"
We just spent 5 nights in Lahaina at the Plantation Inn, and our time there convinces us that a repeat stay is worth planning.
Like an earlier reviewer, we also stayed in deluxe room #11, and I will agree that the bathroom is a little small and needs a bit of a touch up. On the other hand, there was plenty of space in the room itself to spread our things around, plus the lanai (with a wicker sofa, chair, and coffee table) that opened out onto the poolside. The bed was comfortable, and the room included a small fridge for water and snacks and parking right outside the door. The air conditioning worked nicely.
It might have been the time of year when we stayed, but the Inn was wonderfully tranquil even though there were a number of other guests. It's so close to the shops, activities, and restaurants around town, yet as we sat in the courtyard or relaxed in the pool we heard hardly anything from town or from around the Inn. Most of the other guests were couples like us, and we were able to strike up conversations with some of them easily.
We didn’t feel we were at all limited by the four choices for breakfast (poached eggs, bagel and cream cheese, French toast, granola and yogurt). It was quite enjoyable getting breakfast by the pool (with coffee, juice, and a fruit dish), so you can easily chat with the other guests. The hotel also offers a discount at Gerard's, but there is better dinner to be had elsewhere in Lahaina.
The pool and hot tub were clean and not crowded. Pool towels were available at the front desk whenever we wanted. The grounds were nicely maintained. Hotel staff were quite friendly and came to recognize us at breakfast each day, so we were able to have pleasant conversation with them. We never did figure out quite what the reciprocal privileges at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel got us, but we didn't much mind.
All in all, we had a delightful stay at the hotel and we'd be very happy to plan a future vacation to include a stay at the Plantation Inn.

"A great deal in Hawaii"
My husband and I stayed at the Plantation Inn for two nights on our honeymoon in Maui prior to staying at the Four Seasons in Wailea. We had stayed at the Inn in a previous trip to Maui for a friend's wedding and it was one of the most reasonable places we could find for the money (with Maui being so expensive). We really liked it the first time so decided to go back for our honeymoon before we spent the big bucks at the Four SEasons.
I have read the mixed reviews on this board and I have to tell you that we had a fantastic experience with the Plantation Inn both times we stayed there. Yes, it is a "cutesy" place with old fashioned furniture and no computers but that is part of what I loved about it. The free parking is a huge plus and there are so many fantastic restaurants within walking distance. (Lahaina Fish Company is our favorite).
One thing that I didn't see mentioned much is the sister property of the Plantation Inn, the Kaanappali Beach Hotel. When we wanted to go to the beach, we drove our rental up to the sister hotel where we could park for free and use their beach/pool area.
The french toast at breakfast is the best I've ever had and I wish I had the recipe! The patio is a great place to enjoy breakfast and the pool is nice as well. We never had to share it with anyone! The staff we dealt with were always very friendly and welcoming. Our room wasn't ready when we checked in (early) but they called my cell phone 20 minutes later to let me know when it was ready.
All in all, we had two great experiences at the Plantation Inn. We will definitely go back.
