Welcome at four star hotel located directly in the historical town center, overlooking the "Royal Route".

An ancient burgher house situated in the historical centre of the city, right on the "Royal Route" in close vicinity of the main entrance gate to Prague Castle.

The first written records of the house date back in the 15th century. Well preserved basement rooms are from the Gothic period. Renaissance style is manifested in the the painted beam ceilings while the entrance portal is the result of the Baroque reconstruction of the house.Later adaptations brought new architectural elements, among which are quite outstanding the classicist ones. The last reconstruction faitfully preserved the historical character of the building.

Particularly unique is the house facade being connected with the famous 17th century altar painter Peter Brandl, who was born and lived in the house. Due to the demanding reconstruction in 1994-95 the house can offer the public the following historical rooms: Restaurant facilities on the ground floor beneath Renaissance ceilings and on the basement floors I and II beneath Gothic vaults. Hotel-type rooms on the higher floors where the authenticity of history is emphasized also by original period furniture.

Basement II - night bar, Basement I - wine restaurant, Ground floor - restaurant, Floors - accommodation in doublerooms and double-room apartments/suites with shower or bathroom, TV via satellite, telephone, minibar, safe.

"a little gem every year!"
We stayed at the newer of the hotels - Red Lion 2 in February 2006 and this was our 4th visit in as many years - we just love it! We always book the two rooms at the top of the house which have a little attic room that can sleep a couple more. The views from the rooms are outstanding - the castle is directly behind the hotel and there are views of Prague and Petrin Hill from the front. The mini bar is well stocked and the shower is hot and plentiful. The breakfast buffet is very good - you can help yourselves to as much continental as you want and also have a small plate of cooked ham and eggs (our favourite). This sets you up for all the walking you will be doing! I really don't think this hotel can be beaten - just a word of caution - the hotel is up a steep hill but that is the price you have to pay for great views.

"Wonderful Hotel"
We spent Easter weekend at this hotel and it was a wonderful trip. We booked a double room with an extra bed (we were traveling with our 2 children age 3 and 6). When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to be given a huge suite. Each of our girls had their own bed and we had our own separate room. No sharing beds for anyone - that added to a wonderful weekend. The staff was very nice and helpful when needed, the breakfast was basic but good and the rooms were very clean. The restaurant in the hotel was very good as well. We were on the top floor and the view from our window of the Petrin Tower and hills was beautiful (especially at night.) The hotel was very quiet in the evening hours. Our girls enjoyed playing in the room as much as sightseeing. The location was great - right at the bottom of the Castle and also short walking distance to Charles Bridge and Old Town. Nice, pleasant and easy walk even for the kids. The uphill walk was not too bad unless you are carrying heavy crystal purchases or a child. I would highly recommend this hotel as well as Prague. It's a beautiful city.

"Superb location, charming room"
With so many hotels and lodgings from which to choose, I feel lucky to have selected Red Lion. I based the choice upon reviews on this site as well as after having studied the location on a map. It was a fortunate guess! Our choice is always for a smaller, more accurate reflection of the town or country versus the sterility and blandness of the large chain hotels. Red Lion surpassed all of our expectations. It was non-traditional and it was in a splendid location just below the castle. The room was huge and well appointed, in the secondary building across the street from the man hotel. No issue, nothing was overlooked. Non traditional? Well, having to hold the button on the (new) elevator until you reach your floor is new to our experience! The very modern bathroom had but one issue - it has the smallest shower I have ever seen, anywhere in the world. It was literally impossible for me (I am 6' 2") to turn around without opening the door or dislodging the shower head. It was funny, but it is worth mentioning. My wife would have loved a tub. ut we would stay there again without hesitation. The included breakfast is a treat, downstairs in the tiny little bakery room. The staff was excellent, friendly and willing to help. We were able to walk a very short distance up the hill and be at the castle. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an experience very similar to having an apartment in the city. Splendid. it reminded us very much of the Altstadt in Vienna, for reference.
