"Good value for a weekend break"
This trip was booked online via wotif (but similar deals were available elsewhere). My wife and kids were returning from the south island and wanted to break the journey and take in the museums.
We were aware of this hotel, having been once before. If you have a vehicle this hotel is a must for Wellington, as it is one of the few hotels that is centrally located that provides free, secure parking. This means you can come and go as you please and not worry about the safety and security of your vehicle (they stam your ticket which you present at the exit)
Entering via the car park you come in on level 7 (I think) which is where the reception is sited. Check in is prompt and efficient. Also on this floor are the gym (sorry, didn't visit) and the resturaunt. Two lifts nearby access the rooms which are on floors 10 and up.
On our first visit we had a deluxe room, which featured a lounge area with minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, two sofas, a selection of magazines and a TV. The seperate bedroom had a king size bed and a TV. The bathroom was slightly old fashioned, but not too bad. It was restocked daily with amenities.
On this visit my wif and kids booked on a weekend rate. They were upgraded to a two bedroom suite - a queen size room and another with two singles, each room with a TV. A further bonus was the lounge area had a breakfast area. Included in the deal was two free breakfasts - self order from the menu and delivered to your room. Another bonus of this room was that it was on the corner, so we had harbour views in two directions.
Out and about from the hotel you exit via the ground level - you can either go via a mall or down Plimmer Steps which bring you straight on to Lambton Quay. At night there is an intercom to allow you to enter the hotelfrom here.
For NZ$125 (about $90), for a family including breakfast this has to be the best value in Wellington, as even the but motels charge NZ$100 and don't include breakfast or parking.

"Copthorne, Wellington - nice"
I was in Wellington for an Association conference from Late February to early March, 2006 andwas, in part, repomsible for the Committee Group Booking. the Copthorne proved to be pleasant and I found the staff to be both helpful and accommodating.
The only downside is there are no diretions to Reception (6th Floor) so it is easy to get lost trying to find your way in. The security is great, but if you are after a hotel with views, then the Copthorne is not for you (at least to the 14th floor).
The location is great for shopping, as after a few steps down from the hotel you are on Wellington's main shopping street, Lambton Quay.
Over all, I found my accomodation spacious enough for the time I was there, the staff were attentive and friendly and the hotel is centrally located. Good valuue for money and I would happily stay again.
