"Great location, great experience"
Like others, we were concerned about the bad reviews prior to our stay, however we were very pleasantly surprised and loved this hotel. We were lucky to be upgraded to a suite, travelling with our two small children, the room was huge and comfortable, bathroom was great, cooling worked, which it needed to as the weather was VERY hot, and the view of Kensington Palace from our window was brilliant. The breakfasts were fantastic and all the staff we encountered were helpful and polite. Sure the hotel is old and the lifts are in need of renovation, but they work !!! We would recommend this hotel and would stay there again, we found it great value in a great position, however if you are looking for a large, impersonal, modern hotel with no character then maybe its not the place for you!

"Great hotel!"
After reading the other reviews left about this hotel, I was expecting the worse. Don't know what the other guests were used to but me + my partner loved it here. The rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful. As for the food! Amazing! We overdid the shopping and walking so decided to eat in one evening- a beautiful meal was served very quickly and the next day we were very suprised at the price. As for breakfast, we couldn't ask for more, the choices were excellent. I'd stay there again, Hyde park was directly opposite the hotel and made a refreshing change from the hustles of Oxford St.

"Jolly good"
The reviews on TripAdvisor had me a little worried about the Thistle Kensington Palace. Then I got there. Of the three hotels I stayed at in the London area last week, the Thistle was by far the tops. I will try to stay there again.
The good: Huge room for 100 Pounds ($200 US). Clean, smoke-free, a huge bed, and a sofa. A nice little desk for my laptop, a good-sized bathroom, and a built-in iron/trouser press in the closet. And the staff I dealt with were all very friendly and helpful. Room was quiet too -- no noises that bothered me. (One word of advice: there is a power button on the digital thermostat in each room. So even if you turn the temperature up, you don't get heat unless you turn the power on. I didn't realize this until 3:00 a.m. My fault, just passing on the info.)
The bad: Internet access for 15 Pounds is steep, but I paid 12 Pounds elsewhere so not a ridiculous price. The layout of the hotel can be a bit confusing when trying to find your room. So let a porter help you with your bags -- it's worth it.
The no-big-deal: I read some complaints about the location, that the Thistle was too far from the tube station. Those people expect too much. Yes, the Thistle is 640 steps from the tube station. (I counted. Twice.) But that takes a whopping 5 minutes -- I'm way over 30 and had no problems with this walk. If you really don't want to walk, the bus stop is 50 feet from the hotel. Plus, the Thistle is very convenient to the hustle and bustle of Kennsington High Street -- plenty of shops, restaurants, grocery stores, Kennsington Palace and other places of interest.
Based on the price I paid (which was a bargain compared to other places I tried) I'm giving the Thistle an Excellent rating.
