"Great little Parisian hotel"
My mother and I spent our first-ever week in Paris and stayed at the TimHotel Tour Eiffel in May 2006. I based our hotel choice on the reviews here on TripAdvisor, and I'm completely happy with our decision.
It's a small hotel and nothing fancy, but it is very clean and located in a great little residential neighborhood. Our room (at the top of the stairs on the first floor) was big enough for two single beds, a desk, and closet, and there was enough space to open our suitcases on the floor. We can't say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff was -- we don't speak French but everyone at the desk spoke excellent English and they were terrific about giving directions, offereing travel advice, supplying extra towels, etc. There was someone at the front desk 24 hours, which is nice. The breakfast was simple but more than enough to start the day - croissants, toast, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt. (We always ate early - around 7:30 am - so it was never crowded.)
Like everyone says, the Eiffel Tower is within an easy walk (10 minutes for two middle-aged ladies), the Dupleix metro station is just around the corner, and the streets are lively with shops and restaurants from early morning until late at night. There are two cafes right across from the station so it is always busy. As two women traveling alone we always felt safe and perfectly comfortable walking between the station and the hotel, even at midnight. The proximity of the metro is indispensible - I'm no public transportation expert but we mastered the metro by the second day and went everywhere on it -- safe, clean, and easy. Paris is pretty compact, so you never have to travel too long to get to where you're going. Get the Carte Orange pass if you staying for more than a few days -- it's well worth it!
This is a terrific little hotel if you're looking for an inexpensive but very pleasant place to sleep in Paris. We would definitely stay there again.

"A Wonderful Hotel!"
I just returned from a one-day stay at the Timhotel Tour Eiffel. The room was comfortable and clean with a very welcome hot shower and the staff was friendly and extremely helpful.
I had an early flight the next morning, making it necessary for me to leave at 4am for the airport, at which time the usual shuttlebus was not yet in service. The receptionist (Martin) called around and found me transportation, and also helped me figure out how to use the phone card I had bought at the airport.
There was a wonderful cafe around the corner, and it was a comfortable walk to the Eiffel Tower and other attractions.
I highly recommend this hotel for single travellers like myself.

"Don't miss the open air market"
Great Location right next to the Duplex metro station. Small rooms, noisy at night, but this is Paris. Shower was great. Breakfast was reasonable. But it's the location that can't be beat, 5 minutes walk to the Eiffel Tower and next to the metro station. The open air market, held underneath the Duplex metro station on Wednesday and Sundays 10-2:00pm is huge (about 1/2 a kilometre long) and bargain prices are to be had on jewellry, clothes, scarves, shoes and of course the most fabulous produce, meats and breads you have ever seen. After much motioning (not a lot of english was spoken) at a fresh cheese and bread booth, we walked away with 2 large delicous baguettes filled with fresh cheese, produce and pickles, 2 for 5 euros, which we ate at the park near the Eiffel Tower. Absolutely super.
