"Nice Brand New Hotel!"
We recently stayed for four nights. The hotel opened on June 1. They had a great opening rate of 90 euros per night with breakfast. The hotel is directly across the street from the new Messe Wien. It's a one block walk to tram 21. It's a five minute tram ride to the Praterstern train station. The hotel is across from the Prater amusement park. Ask for a room facing the park. Since it's a new hotel - it comes along with a few glitches. The front desk person had a difficult time locating my reservation, even though I had a printed copy of the confirmation. Also, the showerhead in my room needed to be tightened. It took two days and several requests to get it fixed. All it needed was a screwdriver. The "technical staff" does not work on the weekend. So I got a manager to come up with a screwdriver. There isn't a lot of touristy stuff near the hotel. But if you're looking for a nice quiet hotel away from the crowds, or if you're going to the Messe Wien, this would be a good choice. Breakfast was fine. If you're driving, there's a new parking garage next door.

Great hotel: clean, amazing breakfast, modern. The staff were pleasant enough. IN-room safes are included, but they charge for wireless internet.
Location: I think this might put people off, but it shouldn't. If you don't know Vienna well, you might look at the metro map and say, "Hmm, this hotel is far out." But in fact Vienna is a small city with a great, efficient public transportation system. You'll probably use it for sightseeing anyway. And unless you will be coming back late at night (and so have to use taxis, once the trams stop running), the location is not a big deal at all. Whever you are, you just need to get to the U1 subway to Praterstern, and then hop on the #21 tram for 5 minutes. The trams run often (except late at night). I also found the transit system to be quite comfortable and safe (speaking as a single woman). Praterstern is connected to Wien Nord--if you need to get to Sudbonhof, take the S-Bahn from Wien Nord to Sudbonhof. It takes longer, but you'll avoid going up and down and on and off trams and subways with luggage.
We did not go out in the neighborhood, but instead went to the city center. There are some places to eat, but the neighborhood is dominated by the Prater (fairgrounds) and sex shops. There are also lots of residences (and I don't think the presence of sex shops makes the neighborhood unsafe--there was a lot else there too.)
The breakfast was really very good. I used otel dot com for my reservation and got a rate of $150 including taxes and breakfast and 5% off future bookings, so I recommend that site unless you find a much better deal.

Very good reasonably priced hotel
The quality of the room was excellent - nice and clean and really nice bathroom.
Very good price too (although I travelled in February so obviously off-peak).
A bit tricky to get into city centre, but perfect for my meeting nearby.

"Good hotel, not too far out of the way"
We liked our stay at the Trend Messe Wien. The rooms were very new and clean and our side of the building had views to the city. The buffet breakfasts were excellent.
It is a little out of the city centre, but it is a very nice walk through the fair and a park to the city - only about 30mins to St Stepensdom.
Our only complaint was that it was quite smoky at times in the lobby and the enterance to the breakfast room.
Oh, and there isn't a kitchen on site (they contract meals in when necessary). This means there isn't any room service - but the staff at the desk are happy to order take out for you if you ask.
