"Excellent hotel"
We stayed here in March and were very pleased with the standard of the rooms and the cleanliness. The staff on reception were very helpful and spoke good English. The hotel is situated at the bottom of the Gran Via and very near the metro and the open top bus stop. The breakfast was brilliant with plenty of choice including hot food. We were on the ninth floor and had one room at the front which had very good sound insulation as the road is busy all night. The room at the back had a lovely view over the rooftops but was noisy from the fruit and veg market. There seemed to be a club round there somewhere as well as the street was full of people even at 4 in the morning. Earplugs were very useful.
There are plenty of restaurants on the Gran Via, some better than others. We wnt to the cheap and cheerful Museo de Jamon next door but we weren't very cheerful when we came out. Thank goodness for Burger King!!

"Great location"
Stayed here for a long weekend in March.
Location ideal as very close to Metro (as others have said - don't waste money on taxi as it is VERY easy & cheap to get here by metro in 15 mins).
Lots of choice of places to eat nearby altho' we were disappointed by most food we had as it was expensive & touristy (best we had was in Pizza Express opposite the hotel!).
Room was plush & clean - very smart bathroom.
Airconditioning didn't work so room was quite hot & stuffy.
Breakfast buffet offered lots of choice - so much that we never needed lunch whilst we were here!

"Brilliant hotel"
This hotel is in a brilliant location, it's literally on the high street next to all the big name shops, it's also a seconds walk from the metro. I would say this is more like a 4 star hotel than a 3 star and the staff are fantastic. The reception staff are so helpful and go out of their way to book things for you and find alternatives. The breakfast buffet is great too.
I would definately stay here again, it's value for money.

"Great hotel!"
We stayed at the Tryp from the 18th till the 22nd of august 2006, and really enjoyed our stay!
I recently posted a view from the Eduardo VII in Lisbon, and I have to tell you, I was really suprised, because the Tryp Washington has also 3 stars, but was much better compared to the Eduardo!
The room was very nice, the bathroom very modern and clean, the view over Gran Via is great and the walking distance to the touristic locations and shopping areas is very short!
We took the metro to our hotel, and it went very well, although there are some constructions in the metro system, so we had to change two instead of one time!
The breakfast at the Tryp Washington blew us away (compared to the Eduardo), there are so many choices in food, beverage and sweets!
I read in some statements about the entrance hall being closed, so it was no suprise for us! We just checked in at the 4 stars Tryp next door! The hotels are connected, so that was no problem! The front desk staff was very halpful and friendly (in contrast to the Eduardo in Lisbon)!
If you ever get to Madrid have lunch at the Gula Gula at Gran Via 1! It's a fun restaurant with fancy food! Enjoy it!

"Excellent central hotel!"
we have just got back after spending 4 nights at the tryp washington hotel.
it was a very friendly, spotlessly clean and central hotel with a fantastic HUGE buffet breakfast! The breakfast was open until 11am every day and you could have as much food as you wanted which was essential after too much rioja the night before!!
we walked everywhere to all the major sites and lively tapas places and bars easily from the hotel and always felt safe even late at night/early hours of the morning.
the metro which was a euro was also handily next to the hotel.
we had an excellent time in madrid and recommend it and the hotel to anyone.
only thing i would mention is the noise from the road - we were on the 11th floor and though rioja/cerveza wiped out the noise most nights, one night it was unbearable. I'd take earplugs if you're a light sleeper!!

"Central and Brilliant"
We stayed at this centrally located hotel in Madrid for 3 nights and loved it. The shopping centre is a five minute walk and the Salamanca shopping area is ten minutes by the metro (Goya) or bus. For €85 per night with a Grand Via room to boot, I am happy. I booked directly after sending emails with my requirements. They initially got it wrong but it was ironed out. Don’t pay €25 for a taxi from the airport; take the metro (underground) that costs €1 per person with one change. It takes 45 minutes and the walk from station to hotel is two minutes.
Our room was decently sized, cleaned daily with fresh towels and linen including Sunday, receptionists were helpful and polite. GB citizens who like Travel Inn, Holiday Inn Express or Premier Lodge style, this is for you. Only downside is that they would not keep your luggage after you have checked out at 12am and Fox News is the only English Channel.
We did not do meals as there are many places to eat and why be bound to hotel meal times.

"Excellent value and location"
Tryp Washington and Menfis are twin hotels, but the former is by far the better one in spite of its (lesser) 3 star classification. Our room was impeccable, with completely new furniture and perfectly clean. Room size is average, but sufficient for 2 people. The location on Gran Via makes it the ideal place to stay for a tourist. We paid 70 euros a night at the end of November through a promotion from Sol Melia, and I consider this an excellent bargain. I would strongly recommend this hotel.

"Great location and value"
I have recently returned from a trip to Spain and spent three nights at the Tryp Washington, selected after using TripAdvisor. It was just as I was led to expect. The location was great for my purposes. I could easily walk to the pickup point for tours ( near the Palacio Real) and had a good variety of restaurants to choose from within a five minute walk. Although I didn't use it, there is a Metro stop nearby as well. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and quiet; and the breakfast buffet was excellent. The renovations are still going on so I had to use the lobby of the Tryp Menfis, attached to the Washington. The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful.
