Ullensvang Hotel is a venerable old hotel, rich in tradition. Ullensvang is one of the most famous hotels in Scandinavia. The hotel's history starts in the early 1800's, when Hans Utne started a landing-stage station on the Sorfjord. Utne family, has sprung into a modern resort hotel. The Utne family still owns and runs the hotel, and despite all the modern facilities, you will find the personal touch, the old-fashioned Norwegian hospitality and traditions which a privately owned establishment know how to safeguard.
Ullensvang Hotel is situated in the peaceful village of Lofthus in the heart of Norway's unparalleled Fjord District. The area, called Hardanger has inspired Norwegian authors, painters and composers throughout the year.
Scandinavian kings, Emperor Wilhelm II and European nobility have patronized the hotel. Although famous people still choose Hotel Ullensvang for a holiday they are not the only ones anymore, as globetrotting is no longer a privilegie for a selected few. |

LOCATION
Ullensvang hotel is located on the banks of the famous Hardangerfjord looking out over the water towards the magnificent mountains beyond. Hotel is situated in the largest fruit garden of Norway, Hardanger. Some 450.000 fruit trees surround the hotel. The climate is mild all year around due to the Gulf Stream.
Hotel Ullensvang is an excellent starting point for well known excursions like eg. Norway in a nutshell. Across the fjord, overlooking the hotel, is the Folgefonna glacier, and behind the hotel, The Hardangervidda, the largest National park of Norway.

The hotel has two restaurants: A buffet restaurant offering a large, traditional Hardanger Buffet and an a la carte restaurant called “Zanoni” serving menus inspired from Italy.
Activities for the whole family at the hotel include: indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, tennis, squash, bowling, table tennis, pool table, large children play room, full swing golf simulator and fitness room. Outside activities: sun terrace, rowing boats, pedal boats, fishing equipment, bicycles, seaplane, helicopter and hiking possibilities. |

wonderful
We stayed at Hotel Ullensvang on June 11, 2006. We were traveling through the area after visiting relatives in Etne. We had read that this hotel was recommended but we were not prepared for the beauty of the setting and the history of the hotel. It is a most wonderful place. I wish we could have stayed more than one night.The weather was perfect--warm and still. The fjord and the mountains were breathtaking. We just sat and took it all in---it appeared that everyone else felt the same way. It was like being in church--very hushed and reverent.
We wandered around the hotel lobby and lower level, so many interestings things to look at. I would highly recommend this hotel for a special occasion.

Paradise
Stayed here for 1 night at the end of June 2006. The view from our room was fantastic looking out over the fjord. The weather was hot and we found the sun beds very welcome. The swimming pool was great no one in but me and a decent size. They even have an indoor full size tennis court and golf putting range. The public areas were lovely with lots of photos on the history of the hotel. Food great. |
